New PSF Stickers - We need your help!
Hi Pythonistas! The PSF would love your input on sticker designs. We have a new hex-shape sticker [attach pic] and would love to get 5 more designs so that people can collect all 6. Send us your ideas and we'll let the community decide which ones they like best! Cheers, Betsy

I think it would be better to have a different background color. -- Sayan Chowdhury <https://sayanchowdhury.dgplug.org/> Senior Software Engineer, Fedora Engineering - Emerging Platform GPG Fingerprint : 0F16 E841 E517 225C 7D13 AB3C B023 9931 9CD0 5C8B Proud to work at The Open Organization!
If you're having six stickers, why not find a word with six letters in it (for example PYTHON) and have each letter featured in some way on each sticker..? That'll make them obviously collectable and open up opportunities for "re-mix" (anagrams of Python..?). :-) Also, why not commission the design of each sticker from a different artist / designer from around the world, thus reflecting the diversity of our community..? Include Antarctica. Data scientists also use Python there <https://halexand.github.io/2018-02-03-swc-antarctica/>. =) Many in the world would rightfully claim that Eurasia should be a single sticker. But if we can have seven designs, it means collectors can arrange them with six around a center one... -gps

Personally I'd prefer it if the wording were horizontal (i.e rotate everything but the Python symbol anti-clockwise 30°. But this, being personal opinion, should probably be taken as not worth much. S Steve Holden On Fri, Aug 17, 2018 at 6:56 PM, Betsy Waliszewski <betsy@python.org> wrote:

I had an idea a while back for a snake sticker that would snake around existing hex sticker patterns, forming a border line along a row of existing hex stickers. Still think the idea would be cool, but us having our own hexes is also 👍 PJJ http://philipjohnjames.com On Sat, Aug 18, 2018 at 1:34 PM Steve Holden <steve@holdenweb.com> wrote:

Not to poo poo on the snake idea, but it would be cool if there was some element in the background of the stickers that carried from sticker to sticker and made it look like one component. On Sat, Aug 18, 2018 at 5:18 PM Philip James <pjj@philipjohnjames.com> wrote:

A picture being worth a thousand words, here’s a thing I think would be fun, to expand on my earlier idea: The idea being we could wrap around OTHER hex stickers, and have something that’s pretty unique.

i also suggest we remove the circles (strips supposed to designate snakes, the circles being eyes) on the two bordering blue and orange strips else, i feel it's a bit asymetric that rotation of strips, a regular, minimalist design reflects the rigid and clean code structure of python Abdur-Rahmaan Janhangeer https://github.com/Abdur-rahmaanJ Mauritius

here's a monetization plan: produce different numbers of each sticker. Make the middle one extremly rare, the "t", "h" , "o" common and the "p", "y" and "n" kind of rare. give tho away for free, auction of py + n + symbol Harald

+1 — I love the idea of a collection and I love the idea of asking designers/the python community from across the globe to add their mark... BUT (speaking as a designer) I would, visually, want to see these things hold together as a set if the PSF is going to put them out. So, ways you could do that - 1) something like providing a template - maybe include some common design elements/text (with specs on typography) and a common color palate. 2) Make a standard set (I like Steve’s idea), use a single designer for this and make it a tight set BUT also release the template from #1 and ask local groups to add their own spin and encourage the distribution of the local sets far and wide. The python community has always impressed me with its inclusiveness and eagerness to build bridges across boarders largely as a person to person, grassroots thing - so why make this any different? We could build a norm around exchanging these things at conferences or competing conference against conference to see which one can build the biggest set of unique local ones. The PSF could even produce an annual collection of stickers/magnets/3D printed tiles and feature a rotation of the local versions as a fundraiser or just a cool giveaway. I’d even love hex-shaped posit-its that draw from this work - I’d buy PSF post-its in a heartbeat... Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself... My $.02 -Ted

Hi Everyone, Thank you for sending in all your suggestions for new PSF stickers! The ideas we've received so far are great, but in order to move forward to the next step, we need to see actual designs - similar to what Philip James sent in (a picture is worth a thousand words). Please submit your design concepts - hand-drawn is totally fine. Once we have design concepts to evaluate, we can move to the voting stage. Thanks - how about fonts or color specs? I can always pull the values out of those files for colors but has the PSF ever done/commissioned any explicit branding work/developed a primary/secondary color scheme? Also, what’s your desired deadline for entries? Thanks! -Ted

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for sending in all your suggestions for new PSF stickers!
Best,

Hi, Here is the info on fonts: https://wiki.python.org/psf/Python%20Logo%20Font%20License. I'll find out about the colors and will get back to you. I'd like to have designs to vote on by the end of September at the latest. Best, Betsy On Tue, Aug 21, 2018 at 11:27 AM, Ted Pollari <tcp@mac.com> wrote:
Thanks - how about fonts or color specs? I can always pull the values out of those files for colors but has the PSF ever done/commissioned any explicit branding work/developed a primary/secondary color scheme?
Also, what’s your desired deadline for entries?
Thanks! -Ted

That might a very long shot, but why not having stickers with the following designs: * most important PEPs: we can highlight PEPs which have shaped the Python we have today * modules included in the standard library (e.g.: "import os", "import collections", etc..): * sentences from PEP20: these might be horizontal stickers In all cases we have a consistent amount of different stickers which would be fun to collect them all :) Unfortunately I'm not a designer so I don't have a clue on how to design them, just wanted to share my ideas. I don't have any specific suggestion, but my general suggestion is that the stickers all form together to make a larger design, a la the British "coin shield". British currency has seven coins: the 1£ coin, which has a shield on the back, and six coins of smaller denomination which each show a bit of the shield. You can form the six smaller coins together to form a nearly-complete shield, as if they were windows onto a large-ish shield! http://blog.royalmint.com/collect-the-shield/ Since the coins are round they don't fit together particularly well. So the coin designer went with that and spaced them out a little. We don't have that problem--the hexagonal stickers will fit together superbly. So the hexagonal stickers should each have something interesting in their own right, but also show part of a larger structure that's revealed when you get all seven and arrange them properly. Cheers, //arry/
BTW. I personally really like the idea of highlighting significant resources like your tiles do. PEP 8 would be a great one to include, just with a different visual design. On Thu, Aug 23, 2018, 2:44 AM Abdur-Rahmaan Janhangeer <arj.python@gmail.com> wrote:

+1 on the clear design/font -1 on the PEP8 - there will be arguments about which PEPs to include on the collection - I am not sure we want to see any discussions about which PEP is most important. On 21/08/18 19:50, Abdur-Rahmaan Janhangeer wrote:
