Open Source AI workshop at PyCon

Hi Mary, Loren, and the Open Spaces committee, As you might be aware, the Open Source Initiative is organizing a multi-stakeholder process to define an “Open Source AI”: https://opensource.org/deepdive As part of this process, we have organized several online and in-person meetings and workshops around the world, including Open Source Congress, Open Source Summit, All Things Open, Linux Foundation's Members Summit, and AI.dev (Open Source GenAI & ML Summit). We would love the opportunity to hold this workshop at PyCon, as we believe that the Python community is an important stakeholder. As an example of the agenda for this workshop, please find more information in the following document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e8b90yVQ3jOTAcu54mcA2Zb6C681ggBG1J1_YAMs... Looking at the events held at PyCon, we felt that "Open Spaces" was the best fit for a workshop like this, although we would preferably need 90 to 120 minutes of time (maybe even as 2 sessions). Please let us know if that would be a possibility and how we can make it happen. Python community's input regarding what constitutes Open Source AI is of most value, as you bring together AI practitioners and developers alike Thank you for your consideration. Kind regards, Nick and Mer

Hi Nick and Mer, Thanks for reaching out! We'd love for you to hold the workshop at PyCon US and thank you for engaging the Python community in this process. We agree Open Spaces is a good fit for it, and while we don't normally reserve 2 hour slots, we're able to make an exception to make your session work. All we need from you is to respond to this thread with the date and 2 hour time slot you'd like for the open space-- the slots are available Friday - Sunday and they start at the hour mark beginning 8am until 8pm. We can also list the workshop open space on this page if you'd like: https://us.pycon.org/2024/events/open-spaces/ - Just also include in your response the name you'd like us to list for the open space and a description to post. I hope this is helpful and looking forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh! Loren On Tue, Mar 26, 2024 at 11:31 AM Nick Vidal <nick.vidal@opensource.org> wrote:

Hi Loren and all, Thank you again for the opportunity to host a workshop with the Python community to help define an "Open Source AI"! We are wondering if Friday the 17th would be a good date for us to host this workshop, at a time that's most convenient for you? We are super excited about this and we look forward to promoting this widely across our newsletter and other channels! Dear Open Spaces PC, Please find the short description for the Open Source AI Workshop below: The Open Source Initiative (OSI) has been convening a global conversation to find the definition of Open Source AI. We would like to invite the Python community to be part of that participatory creative process. By the end of the workshop, we hope that you'll be able to understand the nuances of different types of AI systems and contribute towards the first Release Candidate for the Open Source AI definition. For more information, please visit: https://opensource.org/deepdive Thank you again for the opportunity and see you soon!
