I didn't realize the Hatchery program was getting so full since the absolute deadline was listed as sometime in April. I would like to reserve an open space for Python and Immersive Environments. Thanks! Best, Michael On Wed, Feb 19, 2025 at 2:53 PM Sarah Kuchinsky <sarah.kuchinsky@pyfound.org> wrote:
If you don’t want to go with a hatchery proposal, you could email PyCon-openspaces@python.org to reserve an open space and cc me.

Hi Michael,
That’s a great idea! Let me see if I can find anyone who can assist; I’m not sure if I’m the one to make the announcement since I’m just in charge of the tutorial track.
I’ll get back to you as soon as I find an answer.
Best, Sarah

My small event, WinterHack, is on 2/22. If you have a promotional video you want to send, I can show it there. Or you can even sign in and say something about PyCon if you have time.

Thanks for your message. What are the dates for the open spaces?
My installations are pretty tough and they have been kicked by kids many times. I can also remove elements and tape some parts down. Sitting areas and any spaces near outlets would work fine and be very safe. In case you change your mind.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for writing in! Your tutorial is currently waitlisted (hopefully you got an email). It’s possible (though unlikely) that it will be selected at the last minute should another tutorial pull out for which it would be a good substitute. I wish I could offer you more certainty.
One option for you to present your work, however, would be an open space. It’s a bit more inclusive an option, since it’s during the conference and we don’t charge attendees any additional entry fee. You sign up on a board and reserve a room. Others look at the board and join in. It might also be more flexible in terms of number of attendees. Tutorials have 52-60 attendees, and I suspect you have a limited amount of equipment that might not be able to support that many people. I’m not sure how long the open space slots are though. I can try and find out.
I wish we could support an art installation; it sounds awesome. Unfortunately, I don’t know where we’d put it, and I’d be a bit concerned that it could get damaged or someone might trip on it.
I know this probably isn’t the answer you want to hear, but I hope you’ll still present in some manner. I’d love to see your art.

Dear Workshop Team,
Thanks for considering my immersive environment workshop. I have a variety of Python based art pieces and installations that might be interesting for the conference, maybe as decorations for a "hallway track" if you will have one. I'd be happy to set up one or more, uncredited, just for the benefit of the conference. As a Pittsburgh resident, this would be an easy task.
A picture of one installation is attached. Please let me know your thoughts.

Yes I figured they were separate. I didn't realize pycon-openspaces was a mailing list when I wrote that. :) The Hatchery is no longer accepting applications, so I hope an open space is available. Best, Michael On Thu, Feb 27, 2025 at 3:49 PM Sarah Kuchinsky <sarah.kuchinsky@pyfound.org> wrote:
Hi Michael,
I think hatchery is rolling applications, that’s all I know. It’s separate from the open spaces, just to clarify.
