Greetings Volunteers!

*Welcome Volunteers!* Thank you, all, who've stepped up to volunteer - you are the foundation of the PyCon community! There is a speaker and volunteer orientation, Thursday evening, at 8:00pm, after the swag bag stuffing party, in the Green Room. If you are unable to attend the meeting, that is fine. Instead please stop by the Green Room, preferably in the morning between 7:00am and 9:00am. The Green Room is located in the 212 meeting room on the second floor above registration. Small deeds can make a big difference. The Lunch room has changed for Wednesday and Thursday , and all the signs and print materials are wrong. We'll need some help directing people for lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. <1hr. You will not miss lunch yourself. Signup: http://goo.gl/V1Ilr We still have 15 open Session Staff positions for both runners and chairs. If you have not, please considersigning up for one of the remaining slots. While you're at it, grab some Tutorial Host slots too - same deal: direct people to get to the right rooms on time. Short; easy; helpful. Here are low commitment needs we have: - WED-SAT: Registration desk (an hour or two at the peak times can really make a difference); - http://goo.gl/y5cXA - WED-THU: Tutorial greeters - help get people to their tutorials; <1hr - WED-THU: Lunch Hosts (direct people); <1hr - http://goo.gl/V1Ilr - THU 4-8pm: SWAG - *Stuff 10 Bags!* (~1/2 hr; but can be fun, addictive!); -* just show up!* Links to information and signups are at http://us.pycon.org/2013/about/volunteers Check current needs at http://goo.gl/P3CAm Don't take on too much - what you do helps and is enough! Remember to encourage others to volunteer. My first PyCon someone tossed me a volunteer shirt: "I'm not a volunteer." "You are now!" A half-hour or hour of time isn't much, and it's a great way to meet people you might not otherwise meet. Remember to have lots of fun. Don't forget to check "events" on guidebook (guidebook.com). See you in Santa Clara! -- Regards, - Yarko PyCon 2013 Volunteer Coordinator

Hi, Doug. I signed up for a few of the slots and will try to fill in a couple more based on need. Quick question, for tutorial host do you hang around beyond the 20-before/20-after to help with non-TA duties for the duration? Also, anyone know of any off-list room shares available for the evening of the 13th? I was hoping for something closer to the venue for that evening. I am covered on the 12th and 14th - 18th. Thanks! Hi Joel - I'm sorry this was confusing (I realized no one was signing up for Hosting, so recently added the hosting signup sheet). Would you sign up for Tutorial Host slots at http://goo.gl/p8cDt? Thanks for signing up for Tutorial T/A! :-) If an instructor asks you to hang around the duration, that will answer your question. Otherwise, there is no specific need to hang around Tutorials beyond the initial 40 minutes. If there are immediate needs, Stewart or Doug or I will ask for willing volunteers on the spot. You can always contribute to the registration desk. Thanks for Volunteering! - Yarko

One more note about Tutorial Hosting: If you are signed up for a Tutorial, you may still host before it. However, you will only be able to help with startup for _your_ tutorial. That's not a problem. On Sat, Mar 9, 2013 at 11:32 AM, Yarko Tymciurak <yarkot1@gmail.com> wrote:

I signed up for tutorial host, placing my slots based on the tutorial I would probably register for. I am waiting to see if some personal funds free up on Monday to know whether I can register or not. Knowing that, when is the deadline for the $150 tutorial price, please? Would that be Wednesday? I signed up for a few of the slots and will try to fill in a couple more based on need. Quick question, for tutorial host do you hang around beyond the 20-before/20-after to help with non-TA duties for the duration?
Hi Joel -
I'm sorry this was confusing (I realized no one was signing up for Hosting, so recently added the hosting signup sheet).

Also, anyone know of any off-list room shares available for the evening of the 13th? I was hoping for something closer to the venue for that evening. I am covered on the 12th and 14th - 18th.
Thanks!

Thank you, all, who've stepped up to volunteer - you are the foundation of the PyCon community!
Signup: http://goo.gl/V1Ilr
We still have 15 open Session Staff positions for both runners and chairs. If you have not, please considersigning up for one of the remaining slots.
While you're at it, grab some Tutorial Host slots too - same deal: direct people to get to the right rooms on time. Short; easy; helpful.
Here are low commitment needs we have:
- WED-SAT: Registration desk (an hour or two at the peak times can really make a difference); - http://goo.gl/y5cXA - WED-THU: Tutorial greeters - help get people to their tutorials; <1hr - WED-THU: Lunch Hosts (direct people); <1hr - http://goo.gl/V1Ilr - THU 4-8pm: SWAG - *Stuff 10 Bags!* (~1/2 hr; but can be fun, addictive!); -* just show up!*
Links to information and signups are at http://us.pycon.org/2013/about/volunteers Check current needs at http://goo.gl/P3CAm
Don't take on too much - what you do helps and is enough!

Online registration for tutorials appears to still be live, and I would expect it to be live through Monday (though I don't know, am not sure). I don't know but my expectation would be that when the onsite registration team & computers take over control of registrations that's it - one data source only! I'd expect "online" registration to go away sometime between Monday afternoon/evening and Tuesday afternoon/evening. In other words, if you're not registered by Sunday, I think you're pushing your luck. According to the registration screen at this moment, the only sold-out class is "Python for Data Analysis".

- Yarko
Also, anyone know of any off-list room shares available for the evening of the 13th? I was hoping for something closer to the venue for that evening. I am covered on the 12th and 14th - 18th.
Thanks!
Joel

Welcome Volunteers!
Thank you, all, who've stepped up to volunteer - you are the foundation of the PyCon community!
Here are low commitment needs we have: WED-SAT: Registration desk (an hour or two at the peak times can really make a difference); http://goo.gl/y5cXA WED-THU: Tutorial greeters - help get people to their tutorials; <1hr WED-THU: Lunch Hosts (direct people); <1hr http://goo.gl/V1Ilr THU 4-8pm: SWAG - Stuff 10 Bags! (~1/2 hr; but can be fun, addictive!); - just show up! Links to information and signups are at http://us.pycon.org/2013/about/volunteers Check current needs at http://goo.gl/P3CAm
Don't take on too much - what you do helps and is enough!

Matti, There is a bug (that Eldarion is still working on) which has some session staff names coming up as blank. Look for sessions which do not list the position: https://us.pycon.org/2013/schedule/sessions/ -Doug On Sat, Mar 9, 2013 at 4:40 PM, Matti Picus <matti.picus@gmail.com> wrote:
I am already chairing one session, I tried to sign on to chair this one as well https://us.pycon.org/2013/schedule/session/6/ but it seems the option to sign on as "session chair" is not available for me (I am logged in, my name appears on the page's upper right corner). Can I only chair one session? Is there some other problem with this page? Matti Picus

Heck, my first PyCon someone tossed me a staff t-shirt. I wasn't staff then and I'm still not staff now but I always do bag stuffing and am trying to volunteer and help out more once I'm there. So maybe one day when I have the time I'll live up to that t-shirt :) Anyways, thanks Doug and Yarko!

Hey people! Any idea of where should we meet for the tutorial hosting? On 11 Mar 2013 06:06, "Erik Bray" <erik.m.bray@gmail.com> wrote:
