Assistance for PyConZA 2015 and 2016

Greetings I've put things in motion for PyConZA 2015 to happen on the 1st & 2nd October in Johannesburg at the Wits PDH (Professional Development Hub). I'd like to get volunteers from Cape Town who would be interested in joining the 2015 organizing committee with an eye towards then taking over and being the chair person for PyConZA 2016 in Cape Town. For 2015 the commitment is likely to be one Skype / Hangout call a week and whatever tasks you agree to take on in those calls. For 2016 the commitment is likely to be more, because the chair has the thankless task of making sure things aren't being missed and of encouraging others to help out. The up sides to being the chair are that you get to meet a lot of people, help create something that a lot of people enjoy and participate in and get to try out your own ideas for what makes an awesome conference. The down sides are that it can be a bit stressful at times and it's a fair bit of work. I don't think any of the the current CTPUG people involved in helping organize (me, Neil, Stefano, Adrianna) are planning to go anywhere, so you won't be left without experienced people to help out, but I think long term if PyConZA is going to continue, it needs to not completely rely on me to organize it. PyConZA 2015 - Call for Speakers

PyConZA 2015 will take place 1st & 2nd October at the Wits University Professional Development Hub in Johannesburg, South Africa. There will be two days of talks, and we will hold sprints on the 3rd & 4th of October. We are currently accepting proposals for talks. If you would like to give a presentation, please register at https://za.pycon.org/ and submit your proposal, following the instructions at https://za.pycon.org/talks/submit-talk . We hope to notify accepted presenters by no later than the 11th of September. The presentation slots will be 30 minutes long, with an additional 10 minutes for discussion at the end. Shared sessions are also possible. The presentations will be in English. In addition to talks, we are also looking for proposals for tutorials, demos, sprints and open spaces. Tutorials are intended to be more in-depth introductions to a topic with a limited number of attendees. Tutorial sessions can be up to 90 minutes long. Demos are cool things for attendees to see and interact with. Open spaces are open discussion forums where communities with a common interest gather to present views, ask questions and meet people interested in the topic. Sprints are coding efforts and hack days that happen after the conference. There's no need to register a sprint or open space topic upfront, but doing so allows us to advertise them during the conference. -- Neil Muller On behalf of the PyConZA organising committee

Hey folks, There are 3 of us here in JHB (we are part of the GPUG organizing committee) and we would be willing to assist Simon for this years event. If you like, please use some task-creating tool and you can delegate some of the work onto us. 1 of the organizers at GPUG is a Witsie alum, so he should be able to get in touch with the right people at the PDH centre.
