Hi Folks - I have a question about emails sent to jobs@python.org. It seems that they can sometimes take a really long time to be delivered. For example, there were two messages that were sent 5 days ago which were only delivered this evening. This could be my mail server (gmail.com) but I tend to suspect that it's more likely that they're being held up somewhere else. Can anyone enlighten me as to what happens when a message is sent to jobs@python.org? Thanks! - Peter

jobs@python.org is directed to the pydotorg list. pydotorg does not accept email from non-members. All of the job postings have to go through moderation. A number of us try to keep this flowing, but the essential problem is that we have a public address that doesn't accept all mail. I don't know what the list settings are for pydotorg-www, but we should end up with a configuration that allows mail to jobs to always come through. -Fred -- Fred L. Drake, Jr. <fdrake at acm.org>

Currently the list has the default of holding any non-member posts for moderation. I can't seem to find any mailman option which would automatically accept messages based on a "To:" address. Does anyone know whether this is possible? And a somewhat related question for the current pydotorg list admins: is jobs@python.org set in acceptable_aliases? Do I need to do that if we move jobs@python.org to pydotorg-www? Johannes

Sorry, nope, not currently possible.

It is, but I don't know if that's a recent addition or not. You probably should set that if you end up forward jobs@ to a new mailing list. - -Barry -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.3 (Darwin) iQCVAwUBRLUg7HEjvBPtnXfVAQI9JwP/QUXMiuMgrgjpGyKlKSvGLvONsdeNFo7T u8S/ff+sv7bKpiJncwjfTmHzEK7boqbm8eO0BPl5J35Z9wM3C4o8ICPWu2XzX3pT pvsq0PnTkOvLmi2A4r+FGO50miPhTNH4IVVw90WNulAoNsMaZ/fbCexHuAtSyg7E RkQJPAT6pcI= =4zZi -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Accordinging, almost all jobs mail is thus held for moderator approval. If the moderators are looking the other way at the time (there are three of us), then the message can languish. Skip

Would an additional volunteer help? I'll chip in if so. Martijn Pieters

I'd be willing to help take some of the load of reviewing messages to lists. And this is just yet another reason for me to get working on an automated job submission interface for python.org. - Peter
