Vote on adopting the hatch project under pypa

Hatch 1.0 has been released - see https://discuss.python.org/t/hatch-1-0-0-is-available/15359 The project has a test environment management side, but also a build backend under the hatchling name. The source repository is at https://github.com/ofek/hatch. I'll start the vote with +1 to it (I only used the hatchling side of it, but that works great and supports all packaging PEPs adopted, so it's a good replacement to setuptools), Bernat

To quote from him (as he can't yet post here): "Yes I'm interested! Per Discord convo I think this would be beneficial to the Python community, and the PyPA would likely make heavy use of the plugin system for trying PoCs of new PEPs" On Thu, 28 Apr 2022, 15:04 Bernat Gabor, <gaborjbernat@gmail.com> wrote:

I agree with Dustin, I'd like to see a formal request from Ofek for PyPA membership. As he's just posted an announcement on Discourse that Hatch 1.0.0 has been released, a simple follow-up to that saying that he'd like Hatch to be added to the PyPA organisation would be sufficient, IMO. (Once that formality has been completed, I'm +1 on the proposal). Paul On Thu, 28 Apr 2022 at 22:36, Bernat Gabor <gaborjbernat@gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks all, looks like we have the confirmation from Ofek here <https://discuss.python.org/t/hatch-1-0-0-is-available/15359/2> and with Paul's second, the vote is now triggered and will conclude in 7 days on May 5th at 10:00 PM UTC. +1 I sent this during PyCon (should have been close to first), but didn't go though, so dumping it in from my sent emails. Also this is likely going to be the ideal place to work on a generic extension backend system. Shows great promise. I’ve provided support for it in scikit-hep/cookie for a while, the plugins sound exciting, and it might be the first “all-in-one” to support multiple environments and proper binary builds (via plugins). Haven’t played with it enough yet, but already like hatchling. Plus pipx already uses it. :) One request - I'd like to see more static typing, I saw lots of overly generic or missing types. I'd be happy to help add those if acceptable, of course. :D
