Please participate: pip & PyPA UX Training

Hello! *tl:dr;* Interested in UX training with the pip UX team in December or January? Respond to the Doodle poll <https://doodle.com/poll/f5evzq9xiiuvs3bk> by Monday, December 14th, 2020. *More Information* As part of the user experience (UX) work happening on pip in 2020, we are offering specialized training on UX to the pip & PyPA maintainer community. This UX training will be focused around specific UX experience honed this year while supporting the pip maintainers, and tailored to meet your needs as maintainers in the pip and PyPA ecosystem. Our goals for the training sessions are: - Learning how to use tools and methods for getting the feedback you need to make decisions and prioritize features better - Building an understanding of people who are using your software - Learning how to work with and translate from people who specialize in UX, e.g. - How to make better error and info messages that help users debug problems, and help them understand what your tool is doing, and how to improve documentation structure and content (what UX folks call “content design”) - How to create readable & understandable command syntax for CLIs (UX folks call this “CLI interface design”) - Methods to find out what users need and don’t need, or have trouble with, and how to make feature deprecation decisions (what UX folks call “user research”) - Learning techniques for improving interactions with community members around feedback *Logistics* We will offer the training virtually at multiple times to enable more of you to participate. We are planning for the session to run for 2 hours. If you are interested to participate in the training, please fill out the Doodle poll <https://doodle.com/poll/f5evzq9xiiuvs3bk> for scheduling by Monday, December 14th, 2020, and (optionally) send us a quick email at pip-ux@pypa.io with short responses to the following questions: - Do you have any needs around scheduling the training that you’d like us to consider? Or preferred learning structure that you’d like to share with us? - When someone says “UX Design” what do you think? - Have you ever worked with a UX designer before? If yes, how did that go? - What are you hoping to get out of the training? What questions do you have about UX that you are hoping we address or share resources about? - Is there anything specific, you’d like to get support on or dig into at the training, e.g. a problem you’ve run into in the past? There will be additional resources and an introductory video if you are interested in the material, but unable to participate in the training. Thank you and looking forward to working with you to help super charge your UX skills! Georgia, Bernard, Nicole & the broader pip Team

Hi everyone, Bumping this, as we have only had one response so far. Please fill out the Doodle poll <https://doodle.com/poll/f5evzq9xiiuvs3bk> by the end of day today. Thanks, Nicole On Wed, 9 Dec 2020 at 09:59, Nicole Harris <n.harris@kabucreative.com> wrote:

A few points: * you will be getting, for free, professional training that would cost hundreds or more than a thousand dollars if you were paying for it yourself * wait, no, there is actually no way you could purchase this on your own, because this is customized specifically to Python packaging * once several PyPA committers have gone through this training, they'll have a shared approach for making better decisions together on stuff that affects everybody * you can put this training on your resume/CV/LinkedIn -- Sumana Harihareswara On 12/14/20 8:10 AM, Nicole Harris wrote:

Hi Nicole, I've filled-in a few slots in January. It will be nice to get a better understanding of the work of the UX team. It could also be an occasion for me to actually meet members of the pip team :) Best regards, -Stéphane On Mon, Dec 14, 2020 at 2:11 PM Nicole Harris <n.harris@kabucreative.com> wrote:

About the group workshop opportunity: We've gotten a few responses, but we would like to hear from more of you about your time preferences, so we're extending the "fill out the poll" deadline to end of day Thursday 17 Dec. Right now, a few different sessions in the first week of January is looking most likely. Thanks, Stéphane! -- Sumana Harihareswara On 12/16/20 3:39 AM, Stéphane Bidoul wrote:
