PyROOT with PyPy

Dear PyPy-Team, I just found out how awesome PyPy is what a great speed-up I can achieve by using it (factor of 5.0x to 50.0x). I was able to remove a lot of my Numpy dependencies in my scripts but unfortunately I need PyROOT for some. My question is now: Is it possible to use PyROOT with PyPy? If not, what needs to be done to get it working? I'd like to contribute as much as possible to get it done. Greetings, Daniel

Oracle Express to test RPythonic cx_Oracle

Hi! On friday I tried to translate pypy with cx_Oracle module enabled but due to errors (cause iterpreter has changed since someone did test the module) - I failed. Armin suggested to start running tests on a regular basis. To do that we need to have sdk + client libs + database itself installed on a test host. That path is included in the platform/freebsd.py code and I set PYPY_LOCALBASE=/usr/local. If this has been fixed in trunk, please could you point me to the revision that fixed it. Regards, David

Properties under RPython

Hi All! I have a quick question for the RPython gurus, are properties supported? I thought from reading pypy tests and some mentions in IRC logs that they should work (plus I haven't found any of the RPython rules explicitly forbidding them), but I'm hitting a dead end trying to use them. If someone confirms that they at least should work in theory, I'll post again with more details. Thanks for your help. -- Gabriel.

I have a question about SmallTuples. Why do we have multiple classes, rather than doing the "hack" of mallocing a single block of memory for the entirety of the object, since it is immutable and we can know the needed space up front, CPython uses this "hack" for strs for example. multibytecodec: missing features

Hi all, Here are the missing features in multibytecodec: * support for ``errors != "strict"''. * classes MultibyteIncrementalEncoder, MultibyteIncrementalDecoder, MultibyteStreamReader and MultibyteStreamWriter. One reason I didn't implement the classes yet is that I couldn't understand two points in how they are supposed to work. But it seems that there are really two bugs, as I've been pointed to: http://bugs.python.org/issue12100 and http://bugs.python.org/issue12171 . So the question is if we should be bug-compatible with Python 2.7 or if we should instead implement some fixed version. I suppose I'm rather for the fixed version, but I'd like to hear some feedback from people that actually use multibytecodecs. Also, I wouldn't mind if someone would pick up the work and just do it, either the classes or ``errors != "strict"'' :-) A bientôt, Armin.

PyPy Genova-Pegli Post-EuroPython Sprint June 27 - July 2 2011 ============================================================== The next PyPy sprint will be in Genova-Pegli, Italy, the week after EuroPython (which is in Florence, about 3h away by train). This is a fully public sprint: newcomers and topics other than those proposed below are welcome. ------------------------------ Goals and topics of the sprint ------------------------------ * Now that we have released 1.5, the sprint itself is going to be mainly working on fixing issues reported by various users. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: - fixing issues in the bug tracker - improve cpyext, the C-API compatibility layer, to support more extension modules - finish/improve/merge jitypes2, the branch which makes ctypes JIT friendly - general JIT improvements - improve our tools, like the jitviewer or the buildbot infrastructure - make your favorite module/application working on PyPy, if it doesn't yet * Of course this does not prevent people from showing up with a more precise interest in mind If there are newcomers, we will gladly give introduction talks. * Since we are almost on the beach, we can take one day off for summer relaxation and/or tourist visits nearby :-). ----------- Exact times ----------- The work days should be 27 June - 2 July 2011. This would be a quick way to get the JIT to work with greenlets under the hood. This would not be as powerful as if one could get the stackless transform to work with the JIT (i.e., no pickling). I wanted to help and I started to look at how greenlets work. Also at Pycon, Christian was gracious in explaining how based Stackless Python works. My own knowledge of PyPY is still really sketchy. Right now my own stackless.py efforts have been in a creating a new concurrency construct called "join patterns." Cheers, Andrew
