This may sound a bit selfish, but a few Ubuntu developers do run their own Derby
to use 3.4 as the default Python3 version for the next Ubuntu release in April,
so a timely release would be appreciated ;)

This actually sounds like a real and interesting reason to have stable Python 3.4 out in march. Ubuntu 14.04 is a LTS, which makes it an important version for corporate distributions.

In addition, other major projects align themselves with released versions of Python. For example Django - I would love to see trunk Django formally support Python 3.4 ASAP.
