Whatever happens I don't want to lose core devs over this. (That said I have 2fa on myself -- Dropbox pretty requires this -- and it's painless for me. But I can totally understand that it's not the same experience for everyone.)

I’m curious why? I have it on and 99% of the time you don’t even notice because you’re already logged into GitHub and pushes/pulls don’t require it.
