test_descr.py crashes under the debug build now. I've got too many things piled on my stack to look into it right now, so it would be good if someone could try to feel debug pain on Linux too. Following Martin, and configuring current CVS with --with-pydebug on Tru64 Unix (wonder what HP will call it... <wink>), I can't get test_descr.py to crash either. os.spawnv[e] and related constants

The spawnv and spawnve functions in the os module look useful, but the lib manual documentation is rather sparse about their semantics, referring the reader to the VC++ Runtime Library for more info. Perhaps this is poetic justice for us Unix bigots (since many people often complain that the Python library and docs are too Unix-centric), but it would be useful to know what the return values (if any) of these functions are and what the related P_* constants mean. threading bug?

First of all, a bandaid for the specific problem is already in place: you can configure everything through Modules/Setup, in particular if you find that setup.py doesn't do the right thing.
