Python 2.2rc1 - release branch created

I've created the Python 2.2rc1 release branch. The CVS tag is `r22rc1-branch'. There's also a tag `r22rc1-fork' -- that's the point on the trunk where the branch forks off. So far the only change in the branch is the version number. As usual, no one except Guido and myself (or our authorized bots) should make checkins to the branch. Checkins to the trunk are okay but discouraged, and generally will /not/ be merged into the release branch unless you notify us (a comment in the checkin message would suffice). I'll be cutting the release tomorrow morning local time (Friday December 14). After the release is done, the branch will be merged back into the trunk. Please note that as this is a release candidate, only essential or showstopper bugs should be fixed. Definitely, no new features should be added. According to PEP 251, Python 2.2 final is currently scheduled for 19-Dec-2001. If you're unsure whether to make a change or not, please contact us first. Enjoy, -Barry

memory leaks in 2.2

Here is a list of all the outstanding memory leaks from the regression tests. All of these leaks have a bug report on SF. test_descr: 117 bytes (0.0407%) test_email: 30 bytes (0.0149%) test_re: 30 bytes (0.0149%) test_richcmp: 16 bytes (0.0106%) test_scope: 39 bytes (0.031%) test_sre: 188 bytes (0.137%) test_symtable: 12 bytes (0.00991%) test_unicode: 66 bytes (0.0224%) syntax error in interpreter: 38 bytes (0.05%)

What's a PyStructSequence ?

tracker admin

I just discovered a few new (?) features of the bug/patch tracker admin page. - You can disable anonymous submission. I've done this for all our trackers (bugs, patches, features), since we have way too many problems with anonymous submissions where the user doesn't provide enough info and we have no way to get back to them. - You can provide custom text for the "submit new" page. I've added a warning about the annoying upload checkbox, and some additional suggestions for patches.
