I don't know if this will be useful to anyone, but what the heck... This post does not propose a complete substitute for lambda, but covers most of its use cases using current python capabilities and syntax. I'm going to be pretty much offline for a week or so - we got burgled the other night while we were asleep and my laptop was stolen. The data's backed up, but it'll be a few days til the replacement laptop arrives. Ok, my email mailbox is still on tape at the moment, so I'm going from memory here. My current plan (assuming this meets with everyone's approval) is to shoot for a 2.3.3rc1 either Friday this week or else on this weekend, and a final 2.3.3 release around the 17th. How's this fit in with other people's plans? In particular Thomas or Tim, whoever's going to need to do the Windows release. Possible bugs and security holes in getpass.py

I am comparing getpass.py (http://cvs.osafoundation.org/index.cgi/osaf/chandler/python/Lib/getpass.py) and getpass.c from glibc (http://sources.redhat.com/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/libc/misc/getpass.c?rev=1.18&c…).
