Hi everyone Raymond Hettinger noticed on the tracker that there are different interpretations of the “accepted” resolution: > Traditionally it denotes an approved patch, not a agreement that the > bug is valid. Daniel Stutzbach and I are (were) two users of the second meaning. It’s more useful to follow Raymond’s meaning, so that a simple query can find all accepted patches that are awaiting commit. I don’t remember if I took up this use from R. David Murray or someone else, so I thought I’d redirect the message to python-dev so that all triagers can see it. Forward to python-list as you see fit, I’m not subscribed there. Regards

I am waiting for the bug Issue5111 (httplib: wrong Host header when connecting to IPv6 litteral URL) to be fixed for a very long. Even I attached patches, test patches. How to get commit access so that I can fix such issues ( HTTP lib ) - Chandrasekar

I'm a little dubious about exposing these officially. They're mainly a hack to get some parts of the standard library working (e.g. runpy) in the absence of full PEP 302 support in the imp module, not really something we want to encourage anyone else to use (and yes, they should probably have underscores in their names, but we missed that when the various private implementations scattered around the stdlib were consolidated in pkgutil). That said, who knows when we'll actually have it done right, so in the meantime maybe having an official workaround is better than nothing... Fixing zipfile.BadZipfile to zipfile.BadZipFile

I am very glad you're reorganizing the Standard Library. Thumbs up! I hope everything will comply to PEP 8 after you're done. Since you're reorganizing, I have my own contribution. I have attached a patch. The issue7351 <http://bugs.python.org/issue7351> was not accepted at the time, so I hope you'll accept this fix now. My point is that every class name in the module zipfile is like this: - LargeZipFile - ZipFile - PyZipFile . . . So apply my patch to make the class name BadZipfile consistent to other class names in the zipfile module and let it be named BadZipFile. Thank you. Best regards, Boštjan Mejak

Locked-in defect? 32-bit hash values on 64-bit builds

After rereading http://bugs.python.org/issue9778 , I'm growing concerned about an impending ABI freeze before the core devs find time to fix the 32-bit hash limitation. ISTM, the use of 64-bit builds is growing in popularity. It was be a bummer to have a locked-in an effective size limit for dictionaries and sets because the API only supports 32-bit hash values. The thread seems to show agreement that the hash values should be Py_ssize_t but the chance to fix it will be lost unless core devs get more time to work on the problem or unless the ABI freeze is deferred. PPC Leopard buildbot failing sqlite test for Python 3.2

There was a test added to the sqlite suite between 3.1 and the current 3.x trunk, TestInTransaction. It's failing pretty consistently on the PPC Leopard buildbot (2.7 and 3.1 are testing OK). Calling sqlite3.sqlite_version returns 3.4.0. A couple of things come to mind: * Does this require a different flavor of the sqlite libraries? I looked through the 3.x docs and couldn't find any mention of a specific sqlite version. * Is this a big-endian bug? Might fail on SPARC, too, then. What should I look at? Bill
