Merge conflicts from unmerged 3.4 commits, what do I do?

An hour ago, I pulled recent commits to my local repository. I edited a couple of files, wrote commit messages, and pulled again, nothing new. I then did the usual: commit 2.7, commit 3.4, merge to 3.5. Problem: merge conflicts from 6 files I have never touched. Include/patchlevel.h Lib/distutils/__init__.py Lib/idlelib/idlever.py Lib/pydoc_data/topics.py Misc/RPM/python-3.5.spec README I stopped at this point and ran diskcheck. Where is our official policy of what platforms we do support?

Over the past week or so there have been 2 patches to add support for various UNIX OSs. Now I thought we had stopped trying to add new esoteric OSs (e.g. I had never heard of MirOS until the patch for it came in), but I can't find a PEP that spells out what it takes to get a platform supported ( http://legacy.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0011/ is about removing platforms, not keeping them or adding them unless you are re-adding one which apparently just takes a volunteer). Hello! I'm working on a patch for issue bugs.python.org/issue8579 (Add missing tests for FlushKey, LoadKey, and SaveKey in winreg). This issue requires the SeBackupPrivilege in order to use LoadKey and SaveKey. While acquiring the privilege isn't very complicated using ctypes, it fails with ERROR_NOT_ALL_ASSIGNED (1300) when the user has Administrative privileges, but it's not an Administrator, problem which can be eluded by running the script with elevated privileges.
