The buffer object, OTOH, is considered fundamentally broken and should be removed.
There's no doubt that the current implementation of it is unacceptably dangerous, but I haven't yet seen an argument that convinces me that it couldn't be fixed if desired. I don't think the *idea* of a buffer object is fundamentally flawed, and it seems potentially useful (although I must admit that I haven't found a need for it myself yet).
