Koenig lookup raises a similar issue: that the behavior of a function call can be changed depending on which headers are #included, and even the order they're #included in.
But at least you can, in principle, figure out what will be done by a particular call in the source, by examining the files included by that source file. With the proposed generic function mechanism in Python, that wouldn't be true.
