Doesn't the current wrapper narrow the acceptable definitions for _ndarray_subscript? The reason I noticed this is that my 2.2.1 code raises an exception:

I guess that means it's going through the *sequence* getitem, not the *mapping* getitem. Have you tried leaving the sequence getitem slot NULL, and doing everything through your mapping getitem slot? That should work in 2.2. --Guido van Rossum (home page: http://www.python.org/~guido/)
