Activating SF mailing lists for PEP discussion.
Ping just recently posted a request here to discuss the iterator PEP on a yahoogroups mailing list. Since the move of eGroups under the Yahoo umbrella, joining those lists requires signing up with Yahoo -- with all strings attached. I don't know when they started this feature, but SourceForge now offers Mailman lists for the various projects. Wouldn't it be much simpler to open a mailing list for each PEP (possible on request only) ? That way, the archives would be kept in a cenral place and also in reach for other developers who are interested in the background discussions about the PEPs. Also, the PEPs could reference the mailing list archives to enhance the information availability. Thoughts ? I would appreciate if one of the Python SF admins would enable the feature and set up a mailing list for PEP 234 (iterators). I'd be glad to set up such a list, esp. if Ping and the members of the existing list opt to migrate to it. If people don't want to migrate, there's no need to set up a new list. Ping? -Fred -- Fred L. Drake, Jr. <fdrake at acm.org> PythonLabs at Digital Creations

Sure, that's fine. I had my reservations about using yahoogroups too, but since Greg had already established a list there i didn't want to duplicate his work. But i definitely agree that mailman is a better option. I've already forwarded copies of everyone's messages to yahoogroups, but after the new list is up i can do it again. -- ?!ng

I've just submitted the list-creation form for python-iterators@lists.sourceforge.net; I'll set you up as admin for the list once it exists (they say it takes 6-24 hours). -Fred -- Fred L. Drake, Jr. <fdrake at acm.org> PythonLabs at Digital Creations
