I was bored the other day so I played around with an image editor and redid most of the windows python icons. Image of most of the icons (I bet this is going to murder my bandwidth): http://luminance.org/py/screenshot.png I did the basic one in vector. Let me know what you guys think, I figure since they came out pretty decent that somebody might be able to make something of 'em! And, just to get in a bit of sucking up, thanks to all you devs for the great work you've done on the language. Here is my man! (sorry if this is not the proper English phrase) I have finally moved the Windows installer generator into the Python source tree proper (Tools/msi). In the process, I had to delete two icons taken from Microsoft sample code, for licensing issues, and had to replace them with plain text, because I have virtually no graphic skills. They are both 16x16 icons, one indicating "go up one directory", and the other "create a new folder". The original Microsoft bitmaps are at http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/python/python/nondist/sandb... http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/python/python/nondist/sandb... Can you help creating a pair of such icons which are similar in appearance but not quite the same? Regards, Martin

Responding to your actual question: They look nice to me, indeed; assuming there are no down-sides, I'd be +1 for including them. Of course, as apparently always the case with artwork, we would need to know the licensing conditions that you want to associate with using them. Regards, Martin

I'm not really worried about licensing... basically, I'd probably just want to keep my copyright on the actual vector art. I'm not terribly concerned about anything else, since they are based on the original python icons. I don't know much about how licensing artwork for open source projects works, so if you or someone else can let me know what steps would be necessary to make it possible for these icons to be used, I'd be glad to help. In response to your previous post, as well, I will try and put together replacements for those two icons. Martin v. Löwis wrote:

Very nice to have a quality vector rendition. May I suggest a slight tweak to +smirk/grin and +top eyelid? He looks just a bit nervous in comparison to the original. http://www.python.org/wiki/python/img/odi.jpg http://luminance.org/py/screenshot.png

+1, those really look great :) Nice job. BTW, my name's Daniel Bickett, I've been lurking for a week or two with the intention of learning more. Finally something that isn't too far over my head to respond to!
