... Random gripe: why doesn't inspect.py use string methods? The string module looks soooooooo dorky...

Ping went to great pains to ensure that inspect.py and pydoc.py worked verbatim with all Python versions back through 1.5.2. I gave up on that for 2.2, but didn't go out of my way to break it either.
