I'm at ETech 2004, where the CTO of Nokia talked about how they are _currently_ using Python to develop applications that run on their "66-series" platform (which includes the n-gage IIRC). Nokia shipped 100 million units last year. Interesting, no? --david PS: Yes, I'll be asking him to consider becoming a PSF sponsor member.

Can you give an example? Is there any hint that the phones might ship with the Python interpreter installed?

Proably you mean "Series 60". Yes, it does include the N-Gage and the Symbian camera phones. http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,6566,010_40,00.html Series 60 phones are not just made by Nokia. Look at the bottom of that page. Series 60 is basically the main competitor to Microsoft's SmartPhone platform. (Series 60 is a layer on top of Symbian)

Not in North America. ;)

Yes, that's' great news! I knew something was confused when I first heard that they were porting Perl[1] to the phones. I was thinking: "Why Perl? Python already runs on Symbian." But then it was corrected.[2] On the other hand, Symbian uses Perl for their Symbian app SDK build process, so I thought that they were just more comfortable with it.[3] Paul Prescod [1] http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/64/34943.html [2] http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/64/35040.html [3] http://www.newlc.com/article.php3?id_article=128

I would like to ask them whether they would be interested in Stackless Python. It would make sense on a small device, bringing them light threads and program persistence. Does anybody know whom I should contact? thanks - chris -- Christian Tismer :^) <mailto:tismer@stackless.com> Mission Impossible 5oftware : Have a break!
