As Terry explained on the tracker issue, printing the entire expression is hugely problematic, as it means that long definition displays (e.g. for dictionaries or lists) will show a huge amount of noise, rather than the subexpression that actually triggered the exception. It is far better to break up the code to avoid long lines in the first place, even if that involves creating "redundant" assignment statements for subexpressions.
