The Python UK conference is taking place on Friday and Saturday 16th and 17th of April, as part of the ACCU Spring Conference at the Randolph Hotel in the centre of Oxford. The impressive list of speakers includes David Ascher, Alex Martelli, Armin Rigo of Psyco and PyPy fame, Duncan Booth, Chris Withers, and core CPython and Jython developers Michael Hudson and Samuele Pedroni. The Python conference follows a 2-day Open Source event with well-known open-source leader and Pythonista Eric Raymond, co-founder of Zope corp Paul Everitt, and a host of other interesting speakers. http://www.accu.org/conference/ http://www.accu.org/conference/python.html http://www.accu.org/conference/opensource.html Though all the official speakers are invited, there will be considerable space during breaks and after hours for Python mini-talks, Birds of a Feather meetings and sprints (possibly including a PyPy sprint). Is there any way of turning it off inside the mailing list? I'm subscribed on the ACCU mailing list as well and by adding the line --LongSig-- to the end of an email message, it removes whatever comes after it, i.e. the confidentiality notice. Unit Testing Problem

Hi, Trying to get my head around Unit Testing (and Python) and I've come across a strange problem when adding some tests to the example from pyunit-1.4.1\doc\PyUnit.html. class Widget: def __init__(self, widgetname, size=(50,50)): self.name = widgetname self._size = size def func(self): return 4 def name(self): return self.name class WidgetTestCase(unittest.TestCase): def setUp(self): self.widget = Widget("The widget") def testFunc(self): assert self.widget.func() == 3, 'Invalid value' def testName(self): assert self.widget.name() == "The widget", "Invalid name" I'm getting the error "TypeError: 'str' object is not callable" when I run my test suite. It's complaining about the last line of code. However, if I take the function call brackets off (assert self.widget.name == "The widget", "Invalid name") it works fine. I expected it to work like the func() example above it. I did a search on Google for the error string, which turned up a few explanations but none which really helped.
