easy_install pip won't work, am concerned Ministry of Packaging may chase after me.

Hey UK Pythonistas, In accordance with the new directives issed at http://s3.pixane.com/python_comrades.png, I've installed virtualenv and virtualenv_wrapper, made, and activated a project like so: # mkvirtualenv imeveryone # workon imeveryone However using the easy_install inside the virtualenv to install pip doesn't seem to be working. But easy_install inside the virtualenv does successfully install other packages (eg, I tried installing ipython and it was fine). Am I doing something wrong? I'm not really experienced with the various Python packaging tools. [Note the system is Ubuntu 10.04 beta, but I don't think that's the cause of the prob] Full output is below. Without wanting to start an editor discussion or, more often as they are called, arguments - I would like to find out what people think of the Eclipse + Pydev combination for python development. I'm keen to try this, but how does it work for you? If you use it, does it work well for you? Any complaints? Best features of this setup? Thanks, David

emacs and python and emacs-starter-kit

Hi, I know from a number of python dojos that most of you don't use emacs, but I thought there might be some people lurking out there who might have an opinion on this. I'm currently using emacs-starter-kit [1] for my emacs set up having had .emacs files for .emacs.d directories lovingly handcrafted (or copy and pasted from emacswiki.org) with thousands of lines (though many of them were skeleton templates. While I really like emacs-starter-kit, the python support is poor. It also seems like there are a number of different ways for python to be supported in emacs (python-mode.el, python.el, ropemacs). Does anyone have any configurations or cool emacs python tips that they want to share?
