The UK's official Python conference returns. It is aimed at everyone in the Python community, of all skill levels, from beginners to core developers. The conference will be held on the 24th to 25th September 2011, in the TechnoCentre Coventry (CV1 2TT). The conference is not-for-profit and community-run by volunteers. It is your conference so you can give a talk, lead a workshop or help with publicity - see our wiki for more details. In particular, it would help a lot if you can forward this announcement to your Python-using friends and colleagues and relevant mailing lists, or link to our website on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and so on. Booking is open now. The ticket cost for the weekend is £95 which includes access to all sessions, lunches, refreshments, the exclusive PyCon UK T-shirt and the unmissable conference dinner (Concession rate is £75). [PyCon Ireland 2011] Announcing our first keynote speaker

Hi All, We are delighted to announce our first keynote speaker, Damien Marshall. Damien Marshall works with Demonware as a Team Lead in Title Development. In this role he works on developing the technologies that power the online components of some of the worlds biggest games, such as Call of Duty. He holds a Phd in Electronic Engineering from NUI Maynooth, where he specialised in the study of data management mechanisms for online games. Prior to working at Demonware, Damien worked as a lecturer on the Computer Games Development course at IT Carlow and also lectured on the Electronic Engineering course at NUI Maynooth. Damien will discuss how Python is a crucial component to the success of Demonware. Using case studies of services developed for shipped games, he will explain how and why Demonware first embraced Python as one its core technologies, and how Demonware continues to use it to develop services that can scale to handle tens of thousands of requests per second with millisecond request response times. Next Python Sheffield July 26th

Hi all, The next Python Sheffield meeting is only two days away on Tuesday July 26th at the GIST Lab. The meeting will run from 19:00 - 21:00, although doors will be open at the GIST Lab from 18:30. The GIST Lab is located opposite Sheffield train station and behind the Showroom cinema: http://thegisthub.net/groups/gistlab This month we're having a coding session, where we'll be attempting to recreate the old Atari game Breakout using PyGame. There'll be an introductory talk on PyGame, cheat sheets will be provided, then we'll get down to some coding in pairs. The pairs will be arranged between more experienced PyGame users and less experienced ones, so don't worry if you're not very familiar with PyGame. Try and bring along a laptop with Python and PyGame installed. PyGame can be downloaded from here: http://pygame.org/download.shtml Last month we had 20 attendees and this month we have 7 people registered so far. This project has been developed from a team (and their respective courses) at Goldsmiths college and we are looking for a creative and ambitious individual who is looking for Equity / partnership in a ground breaking Internet start-up.
