November London Python Dojo
by Tim Golden Dec. 2, 2018

Dec. 2, 2018

https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-python-code-dojo-season-10-episode-3-… The London Python Code Dojo is back next Thursday, the 1st of November at 6:30pm. Gazprom (GM&T) are hosting us for the first time at their offices near Regents Park: 20 Triton St, London NW1 3BF We will have our usual mixture of socialising, and hacking on silly problems. For those who wish, there will be post-Dojo socialising in a nearby pub. And of course the O'Reilly book give away. What is a dojo? A coding dojo is a safe place (we use the PyCon UK code of conduct) to deliberately practise and develop your coding skills, and perhaps learn something new too. We don't really (read: never) stick to a strict dojo format but rather brainstorm ideas for problems to solve, choosing one by popular, if complicated, vote, and then break into teams courtesy of the London Python Dojo Fully Patented Numbering Scheme for an hour and a half of furious coding (at least, furious something). To wrap the evening up each team does a “show and tell”, and end with drinks in the pub. All programming abilities welcome, we have diverse attendees ranging from beginners to core Python contributors!

Exercism.io needs Python mentors
by a.grandi＠gmail.com Nov. 3, 2018

Nov. 3, 2018

Hello folks! Exercism.io ( https://exercism.io ) is a platform designed to help people improve their coding skills through practice and mentorship. Recently it re-launched with a new mentoring feature. All the students there are guaranteed to receive feedback from a mentor. This greatly helps students with learning many languages, including Python. Python is well-represented on Exercism when it comes to student interest. (Un)fortunately, it is disproportionately more popular to learn Python than to teach it, thus we are asking for your help! If you would want to help a bunch of enthusiastic learners improve their Python skill, go to https://mentoring.exercism.io for details. There are actually many languages on Exercism that could use additional mentors. If you are not comfortable mentoring Python, it would be possible to mentor another language. If you need more encouragement, someone wrote a blog post about what they personally enjoyed about being a mentor: https://angelika.me/2018/08/12/5-reasons-to-become-a-mentor-on-exercism/ Thank you so much, cheers Credits: I've re-used the text from this post on Reddit which was related to Scala https://www.reddit.com/r/scala/comments/9tgh6c/exercismio_needs_scala_mento… -- Andrea Grandi - Software Engineer Website: https://www.andreagrandi.it Twitter: https://twitter.com/andreagrandi GitHub: https://github.com/andreagrandi PGP: https://www.andreagrandi.it/2240402E.asc
