The ideal is that: an ideal. But we've now seen that there is no consensus on how to get there, because whichever route we go it gets messy. And the advantage of not doing the breakage is significant.

I think we should still talk about the skimage2 option, but we should investigate each break, consider workarounds, and if those cannot be found justify the change with examples.
