I would actually rather go with scikit-image.org as the domain name reflecting the name of the project. It's what I would expect most users would search for as well.

Teaming up, in the sense of having a more unified brand, yes.
At the moment we have:
http://skimage.org -> website
https://github.com/scikit-image -> org
https://github.com/scikit-image/scikit-image -> repo
I am OK with the repo having a slightly longer name, since I almost
never have to type that in :)
