[scikit-image] Techniques for Aligning images to GIS data

Hello Has anyone here worked with satellite images before ? I am dealing with the problem of aligning satellite images to GIS data which can be off by upto 15pixels. Could someone point me to good literature to read on the topic ? Thanks Vighnesh
