Yes, I think it would be a great idea! Initializing the contour on the (rectangular) boundary of the image should do the job, I think. I'll try it out tonight, hopefully. I also think it would be nice to be a bit more present on Stackoverflow/image processing, because it's a bit sad most questions are related to Matlab... time to change this :-)!
