Hi everyone, Alexandre di Siqueira (one of our core devs) recently started a postdoc position at the Berkeley Institute for Data Science with me. Alex will be doing material science research, and will improve scikit-image to meet the demands of related analysis. Our initial focus will be on (fairly large) 3-dimensional volume segmentation. Expect to see a lot more activity from Alex in the coming months, and let us know if there are any specific N-dimensional issues you'd like us to pay attention to. Best regards, Stéfan
Hi, Congratulations, Alexandre! Best of luck in your new position! Regards, Egor On Thu, 23 May 2019 at 09:53, Stefan van der Walt <stefanv@berkeley.edu> wrote:

Hey everyone,
Congratulations, Alexandre! Best of luck in your new position!
thanks Stéfan and Egor! I'm really glad to be here. Hope I can contribute with lots of nice stuff :)
How does scikit-image compare with https://www.mipar.us?
Hey Raphael, first of all, we're open source (and free, as in beer/speech :). Since MIPAR is aimed to GUI's, you could compare it directly to ImageJ, Fiji or some related stuff [1]. On the algorithms, you could have the same experience (and even more) using skimage + matplotlib (2D images) + mayavi/itk (3D images). Kind regards, Alex [1] Someone was "advertising" this GUI on the mail list, which used some of skimage functionality... Juan, do you remember the name of the software? Congratulations Alexandre, I'm really happy to hear this! It's very exciting that you'll work on 3D segmentation, good luck with all this and don't hesitate to ping me on specific PRs/ questions since I'm really on and off these days...
