in january 2016 there were a discussion here about cleaning the ode/odeint interface, see https://mail.scipy.org/pipermail/scipy-dev/2016-January/thread.html#21176 but I can't be a mentor for that (lack of knowledge of Numpy/Scipy internals and no time, sorry).
