Proposal to remove PDF version of SciPy docs
Hi everyone, In https://github.com/scipy/scipy/issues/15635 we are preparing to kill the generated PDF version of the documentation that, in our opinion serves no purpose to anyone. And if there is any we missed the offline HTML is still way better than the generated PDF. Also it is draining a lot of CI resources for every commit of every PR. Hence please let us know if we are forgetting any use case for it and we'll try to accommodate it. Otherwise we want to get rid of it asap to reduce the CI load. Best, ilhan

I have not downloaded any docs of python packages in many years. (I liked htmlhelp when I was younger.) It's mainly docs to look up while coding. However, I do have pdf files of docs of Stata, SAS and several R packages. In many cases they have good description of technical details, and the pdf files are good for printing several pages, and reading on ipad when I don't have online access. Josef
Best, ilhan

These 1000-page poorly formatted pdfs are barely usable (I tried, long time ago, because I typically default to a pdf version if available). So either improve the pdf version --- which is clearly too much work for too little benefit --- or remove them entirely. Especially given that a zipped html version is available to download from docs.scipy.org for offline use (download them once before boarding the plane etc). ср, 23 февр. 2022 г., 01:45 <josef.pktd@gmail.com>:

+1 to remove PDF docs as well--I see that Ralf and others are in favor in the issue, and during the release process the doc build can be a source of problems. Indeed, I try to only change my release doc build environment every few years if possible, just to avoid the finnicking.
