global fitting of data sets with linked paramters

Hello I have data sets and would like to fit them globally with common parameters. Is there a way to do this using existing scipy modules leastsq. Any pointers for algo and suggestions are welcome. Thanks Morovia.

Hi all, Hello, I am a freshman here. And I am a postgraduate student in Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently I am trying to install numpy and scipy for my project. It's fine with numpy. But somehow I can't get scipy into working properly. When I tried to import scipy, it always says: RuntimeError: module compiled against version 1000000 of C-API but this version of numpy is 1000002. About cholesky funtion

Hi, In my procedure, I use the cholesky(a) function in the scipy.linalg.decomp model. If the max number of row and column in matrix a is less equal 15, cholesky(a) is OK. But when the max number is larger than 15, there will have a error message: “File "C:\Python24\Lib\site-packages\scipy\linalg\decomp.py", line 413, in cholesky if info>0: raise LinAlgError, "matrix not positive definite" scipy.linalg.basic.LinAlgError: matrix not positive definite”. My matrix is a real symmetric matrix and positive definite, so I don’t know why the error emerges. Have there some limits on the number of row and column in a matrix? the attachment is my code. Intallation Tests Failed

I just finished downloading and installing the latest NumPy and SciPy; the installation tests failed: Ran 1552 tests in 12.197s FAILED (errors=196) I followed the instructions on the wiki installation page: first NumPy, then BLAS (as a directory within /usr/local/scipy-0.5.0), then LAPACK (also within that directory), then SciPy. When compiling LAPACK I reran it without the quotation marks for the optimization option on the command line; hadn't seen options quoted before. Could that make a difference? Also, when LAPACK finished compiling it did not automatically return control to the command line; I had to kill the process with ctrl-c. What do you suggest I do to get a working installation? NumPy or Numeric for Matplotlib?

Yesterday, when I upgraded numpy and scipy I removed numeric because it seems to have been replaced by numpy. However, the latest version of matplotlib, 0.83 still, seems to want numeric or numarray. Do I re-install numeric on my systems or is there a work-around for this? Thanks, Rich -- Richard B. numpy.sum and generator expressions

Hi I have a lot of code that uses numpy.sum with generator expressions: import numpy as N a = sum(i for i in xrange(3)) Of course the generator expressions are a little more involved than that. With numpy 0.9.8 this works as expected: In [1]: import numpy as N In [2]: N.sum(i for i in range(3)) Out[2]: 3 but with 1.0b4 I get: In [14]: N.sum(i for i in range(3)) Out[14]: <generator object at 0x2aaaae5e3248> Is this the (new?) expected bahaviour, or is it a bug? I hope for the latter, since I use generators like this quite a bit... Fourier Tranforms of irregularly sampled data

Hi all, I want to calculate the periodogram of a series of data that have been measured at irregular intervals i.e. A quantity was measured every ten seconds one day and then maybe every 20 seconds a week later etc. Is there any way to do this easily in scipy? I have an algorithm to do this but it is dreadfully slow since it uses python loops and map(). Any help will be greatly appreciated. -Ewald

hi, i have just been looking at numexpr in the scipy sandbox from svn. i see that there is mention of log, exp [in complex_functions.inc, but not in interpreter.c] but can not follow the code. can those be used in numexpr evaluate() ? and if so, how? is there a way i can figure out what expressions/functions are supported? i am unable to find any docs other than this page: http://www.scipy.org/SciPyPackages/NumExpr is there any further documentaion that i am missing? thanks, -brent
