For Fortran, the build will probably use f77 if you don't pick anything else using --fcompiler. You may or may not need to change that.
I noticed that atlas and scipy often do not pick the same fortran compiler by default. If you have gcc and sun compilers on solaris, I would not be surprised if this were the case. With ATLAS, you can change the fortran compiler with the option -C if fortran_compiler during configure stage. cheers, David
