I've written a C version of a fast Humlicek algorithm, which I use for spectral fitting. I'm willing to part with it if someone would like to include it in SciPy.

Paul : I dont know how to write wrappers around c programmes.

I have wrapped the humdev subroutine found here http://www-atm.physics.ox.ac.uk/user/wells/voigt.html some time ago with f2py but switched to wofz since I didn't need high speed. I can look for the .pyf file if you're interested.
