new SVN build issue?
Hi All, So I just svn updated to revision 2233 and successfully installed on a 64-bit Debian installation using: rm -rf build ; python setup.py install --prefix=/usr/local However, on a 32-bit Debian machine, I'm getting the following error after doing: rm -rf build ; python setup.py install --prefix=/users/sransom ---------------------------------------- Warning: Inheriting attribute 'description'='image array convolution functions' from 'scipy.stsci.convolve' Warning: Inheriting attribute 'author'='Todd Miller' from 'scipy.stsci.convolve' Warning: Inheriting attribute 'author_email'='help@stsci.edu' from 'scipy.stsci.convolve' Warning: Inheriting attribute 'description'='image array convolution functions' from 'scipy.stsci' Warning: Inheriting attribute 'author'='Todd Miller' from 'scipy.stsci' Warning: Inheriting attribute 'author_email'='help@stsci.edu' from 'scipy.stsci' Traceback (most recent call last): File "setup.py", line 55, in ? setup_package() File "setup.py", line 47, in setup_package configuration=configuration ) File "/users/sransom/lib/python2.3/site-packages/numpy/distutils/core.py", line 144, in setup config = configuration() File "setup.py", line 19, in configuration config.add_subpackage('Lib') File "/users/sransom/lib/python2.3/site-packages/numpy/distutils/misc_util.py", line 753, in add_subpackage caller_level = 2) File "/users/sransom/lib/python2.3/site-packages/numpy/distutils/misc_util.py", line 736, in get_subpackage caller_level = caller_level + 1) File "/users/sransom/lib/python2.3/site-packages/numpy/distutils/misc_util.py", line 683, in _get_configuration_from_setup_py config = setup_module.configuration(*args) File "./Lib/setup.py", line 25, in configuration config.make_svn_version_py() # installs __svn_version__.py File "/users/sransom/lib/python2.3/site-packages/numpy/distutils/misc_util.py", line 1298, in make_svn_version_py self.add_data_files(('', generate_svn_version_py())) File "/users/sransom/lib/python2.3/site-packages/numpy/distutils/misc_util.py", line 1281, in generate_svn_version_py assert revision is not None,'hmm, why I am not inside SVN tree???' What version of SVN are you running on both systems. What version of NumPy? There was a change to SVN that required some fiddling with how NumPy generates the svn revision number. It looks like that is where your problem is. -Travis

32-bit machine with the problem: In [1]: numpy.__version__ Out[1]: '1.0rc1.dev3140' tamino:~$ svn --version svn, version 1.4.0 (r21228) compiled Sep 12 2006, 03:40:52 64-bit machine without the problem: In [1]: numpy.__version__ Out[1]: '1.0.dev3216' uller:/usr/local/src/scipy$ svn --version svn, version 1.4.0 (r21228) compiled Sep 13 2006, 09:04:00 Hmmm. I did numpy svn --updates within only a few minutes of one another. I'm kind of surprised they are different. Actually, how is it that those are not the same versions of numpy? That makes sense because the svn 1.4 fixes did not get checked in until r3164 and you are running numpy version r3140 on the 32-bit machine.
Here is what I get with svn info:

Hmm. That is confusing. Also, you should remove the build directory and install again from the same directory you ran svn info. Good luck. -Travis

Yup, I always remove the build directory. My problem this time was a bad PYTHONPATH which was pulling in an older numpy for python 2.3, even though the python I'm using is 2.4.
