Hi all, It is almost three months from the last release (2008.4), so I would like to roll out the 2009.1 by the beginning of the next week. I am aware that this list has been rather silent recently, but if some lurkers are still here, I would very appreciate testing/reporting bugs for the development version, see below. If you have some comments on how to improve our web site(s) [1], [2], do not hesitate and post it here, please. I am aware that the documentation is lacking, we are working on that, as well as on fixing the issues. Get the sources: $ git clone git://git.sympy.org/sfepy.git or: go to [4] and download the tarball of the latest snapshot 2. Build extension modules: $ cd sfepy $ make # you may need to tweak site_cfg.py, see site_cfg_template.py 3. sfepy over web

Hi guys, I think we should get sfepy running over web. I have setup a Sage notebook and it seems that as long as we can safe something to a png file, we can work with this over a notebook. Also, we should try to merge it with hermes, so that we can just develop one (good!) FEM library and benefit from each other. Looks like some exciting times are ahead of us. :) Ondrej

Coupled Thermal-Electrical problem

Hi! I got a question how to go about setting up a coupled Thermal- Electrical problem, where the heating comes from the Joule heating of a electrically conductive part. The properties are temperature dependent. Is there some similar example? PS! Robert, We met at EuroScipy and I only now got around to join the list.

I am pleased to announce the release of SfePy 2008.4. SfePy (simple finite elements in Python) is a finite element analysis software based primarily on Numpy and SciPy. release numbering

schroedinger --plot option

Hi Ondrej, to test the new live plotting, I have added the --plot option to schroedinger.py - it can now plot the convergence (or rather divergence :]) of DFT iterations, if matplotlib with GTKAgg and multiprocessing modules are available. To all: standalone example is in examples/live_plot.py, just run: $ python examples/live_plot.py After the plotting is done the program waits on pause() - press any key to quit (Ctrl-C causes multiprocessing to hang, do not know why yet, and explicit kill is needed). r.

unifying terms

Hi again, the code is ready to unify the terms corresponding to the same integral (weak) forms. The unified term names are obvious to choose except one: how to call the unification of d_div, dw_div, d_grad, dw_grad? they are all defined as $\int_{\Omega} q\ \nabla \cdot \ul{v}$ but differ in type of variables (virtual vs. unknown). I propose dw_stokes, what do you think? r.

Hi, I have moved the documentation originally at http://ui505p06-mbs.ntc.zcu.cz/sfe/Documentation to http://code.google.com/p/sfepy/wiki/Documentation and updated it to match the recent code. Any comments/feedback/improvements will be appreciated! I will move gradually all the code-related information to the google site so that we have the wiki docs at one place only. r.
