Hallöchen!
What is the best way to export VTKs to PDF? The GUI window of SfePy's viewer (the MayaVi 4.0.0 window) can write nicely to PNG but when it comes to PDF, the resulting file is unreadable by Evince of Acrobat Reader. Similarly, the SVGs cannot be imported into Inkscape, and the EPS files are not accepted by GhostScript. Thus, all vector formats seem to be broken.
Is there another way?
Tschö, Torsten.

If it behaves the same bad way with pure mayavi (run its executable, open the file, add e.g. Surface module...), it would be good to report it to enthought mailing list. If pure mayavi works, we have a bug in sfepy...
You could try installing and using paraview, but I am not sure if this would help - cannot try right now.
thanks for reporting this! r.
Hi,
Paraview can not export PDF/EPS/SVG. I found only this plugin
http://www.pdf3d.com/products.php,
but it is not for free (perhaps).

You are right. It can save a screenshot (bitmap) but it can also export to pov, vrml, x3d or x3db files, which might be useful.

I have tried saving pdf at my work workstation (gentoo linux, mayavi 4.0.0) and it works (except small black rectangle instead of the text with variable name). At my laptop with kubuntu 11.10 it does not work (it's a fresh install so I am not sure if it is set up correctly).
What is your platform, Torsten? It's definitely a mayavi/vtk installation issue, that should be reported to "enthought-dev (at) enthought dot com".

Surface module!! This is what I needed to know ... I just wondered why MayaVi didn't show anything. ;-)

It is a MayaVi bug.

Yeah, the default to show nothing is not something a new user expects :).
It is also possible to specify filters/modules on the command line, e.g.:
mayavi2 -d cylinder.vtk -m Axes -m Surface

There is something peculiar with mayavi package installation also in kubuntu, as when I press the ok button of our viewer, it exits with a segfault.
