Using SpamBayes in a mail relay/gateway?

I just skimmed through the 9,000 messages in the archive, and I can't find much about this, so I thought I'd see if I can find anything out from people here. I also checked the website, so please give this newbie a break. :) My boss is asking me to give him ideas for spam blockage on a mail gateway to our Exchange box. I'm thinking it can probably just run on some kind of SMTP gateway, but the only catch is that it probably will need to be Windows-based. So to make it really simple, all we need is a server that will take mail in, filter it, and pass anything that doesn't get filtered out on to our Exchange server, which we will then log into. This is mainly so that we don't have to install SpamBayes on every Outlook client we have, and keep it updated. Is this possible? Can we do this using current tools? Are there instructions somewhere that will explain to me how I can do it, log into the spam filter to double-check messages (or even better, forward them to a mailbox of some kind), and maintain it? Take a look at the configuration help page, towards the bottom (look for "data_directory"). There are detailed instructions there. You can find the configuration help page by going to the "About" page (from the help submenu), and clicking on the "configuration" link at the top. =Tony Meyer

Hi, I'm helping other people use the Outlook plugin with windows 2000 and exchange 2000. There are some users who share a networked lab and they don't always work on the same machine. Is there a way to specify the location of the ..db files? Ideally, i'd like to keep the files in the users' 'home' directories (a mapped network drive) so that it doesn't matter which computer they're using. Is this possible? If it is, i've never used python so detailed instructions would be appreciated. Thanks a lot, melanie

Outlook error with Spam Bayes

Hello. I've encountered an error in Outlook with the latest version of Spam Bayes (8.1?). I've read the FAQ and troubleshooting guide and haven't found anything like this! I'm running Windows 2000, Office XP with all the latest patches. I can install SpamBayes and the menu bar is fine. It filters messages. As soon as I try to read a message, the ghost outline of the message appears, but Outlook crashes and restarts. The only way to continue is to remove SpamBayes and read messages. I've removed SpamBayes, re-booted, downloaded again, and installed again. Same issue. Log files are clean. Thanks for any help you can provide. Jeff D. In addition to the other packages mentioned, you can try out the n-way script in the contrib directory, which will do this for you. Running without any arguments will give example usage. Error message when starting Spambays

Keyboard shortcuts

Hello, A neat feature to add to SpamBayes would be the option to bind keyboard shortcuts to "Delete as Spam" or "Recover from Spam". Alternatively, these items could be added to messages' context menus, which are accessible via the keyboard (with Shift+F10). -Dan
