Mark, I deselected "Save spam score" and still had the problem. I then deselected "Enable background filtering" and still had the problem. (BTW, I realized later that I did have the Junk Mail coloring rule on). At some point after this, the problem cleared up. I'm not sure why. Perhaps I had opened and closed Outlook without specifically checking to see if this made a difference. I have everything back to default now-- Spambayes is enabled; "Save spam score" is enabled; "Enable background filtering" is enabled; I still have the Junk Mail coloring rule enabled, and Spambayes is working OK. Will continue to monitor the situation...

500 Server error when training from web page

This is with 1.0a6 on Windows 2000, sb_server.py, eudora. I went to Spambayes Web Interface: <http://localhost:8880/home>Home > Review and clicked some radio buttons to classify the unsures as spam. hi, if just trained my spambayes, will it score wrong if i have 418 ham and only 189 spam? (Maybe i should sign up for more spam-crap so i get an even number to train?) is there any posibility to make a complete complete complete uninstall so theres NO trace of spambayes on the computer or the registry? (because i installed it with outlook 2002 and later upgraded to outlook 2003) and i want to make a new fresh reinstall, without any trace of it in the beginning. /Stefan

"Mark", is Mark Hammond, who is the main force behind the Outlook plug-in and, recently, the pop3proxy service and (forthcoming) sb_server binary release. He does read this list, but doesn't always have time to get through everything, and tends to concentrate on people asking for help with the plug-in that no-one else has managed to help, because he's the expert there. > How do I > install the service, or do I need to ask him that? To install it, you should just have to run "pop3proxy_service.py install". You can then start it with "net start pop3proxy", stop it with "net stop pop3proxy" and remove it with "pop3proxy_service.py remove". If something goes wrong, you can run "pop3proxy_service.py debug" and it will print out the error (otherwise it goes to the Event Log which you get to somehow (can't recall how) via Windows). Note that you need to have installed the Python win32 extensions before you can do this. (There's a link on <http://spambayes.org/windows>) > I see. If it is, then what's happening is that you can't use the database after using the web interface to change any options (it gets closed, but not reopened, basically). You should be able to fix it by simply restarting pop3proxy_tray or sb_server (whichever you're using) after you use the web interface to change any options. If this *doesn't* fix it, then maybe it's not that bug after all, and it would be great to know this so that one of the developers (maybe me) can try and track it down. =Tony Meyer

If *you* have two .ini files, then you can delete one. SpamBayes doesn't include any [1]. If you mean that there are multiples places that spambayes looks for an ini, this is deliberate, and helps a lot when running the testing stuff. > 2) Too complicated. There's no point including an .ini file, because we wouldn't know what to put in it - all the default settings are stored in Options.py, and the .ini is only necessary if you want to override those. If anyone wants a simple way to enter in their configuration, they can run "sb_server.py" and do it via the web interface (this creates the .ini file for you). The "replace_nonascii_chars" option is on the advanced configuration page under "Tokenization Options", and is called "Replace non-ascii characters". The web interface is a much better method for people that don't have the knowledge to be mucking about with .ini files. Note that people running Windows that have the win32 extensions installed will have an .ini created for them because it automatically sets some options for them (the location of storage files). If they use the autoconfigure script, then the .ini will get additional information (the servers needed). The extra assistance is for Windows users because they tend to be the ones that need the most extra help. =Tony Meyer [1] Well, the Outlook plug-in does, but that's not used by anything else, like everything in the Outlook2000 directory.

re: Error Message

When I begin installing SpamBayes, on my Compaq Presario laptop( 2yrs old) I get this pop-up message. I tried 'retry' but that did not work. I choose 'Ignore'. I assume the app is not running since I do not the usual message-- on choosing manual Vs automatic learn mode. . I'm using native windows X-P, MS Office 2000; 256 RAM, 20 GB HD, I GHz processor. Any suggestions? Carl

Effectiveness

Hi, I know that Spambayes uses bayesian filtering... Now, I am asking would it still be effective if I am for example receiving 4 millions mails a day? Would it not tire my CPU, coz as far as I know it, Bayesian Algorythm is a CPU intensive Algorythm (Im still faithful to bayesian though, just asking) Thanks! --------------------------------- Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
