Simple and direct help with Netscape integration

Dear Spambayes users, I am a computer user not a programmer and not particularly familiar with computer jargon but Spambayes has been recommended to me as a very good spam filter. I have to admit that I am not sure from the text files as to exactly how to configure my Netscape 7 to interact with spambayes which I have downloaded together with the suggested version of Python. I get about 100 emails per day and now get about 30 - 40% spam. Can someone give me simple directions as to what I put where in which file to get this program up and running with Netscape? documentation improvement (?!)

Hello, First I would like to thank you for spambayes. So far, if works very nice for me, and my system does not seem to take a big performance penalty for using your filtering solution(a P75 with 40 megs of RAM). This is actually my first bayesian filtering solution, and I am impressed. I would also like to suggest a small improvement that is based just on my way of dealing with email, which is that I filter it in separate folders (mailing list postings). If procmail decides that something should stay in my INBOX then that email is bound to be either adressed to me for something important (girlfriend, friends, people that contact off-list, etc.) or it can be spam. Somewhere in the docs that come with spambayes, you say that the rule that tells procmail to use sb_filter as a filter for email should the the topmost rule. In my case that would be a little bit overdoing mail filtering since it seems that all mailing lists benefit now from spam protection (SpamAssasin or some bayesian filtering). So I think it makes more sennse (to me at least) that I should train spambayes with the spam/ham that I get in my INBOX and that's that. -- One way to make your old car run better is to look up the price of a new model.

Update to 0.81 deleted md db

Tony, I just updated from 0.7 to 0.81 Sept.9 & now have no db. My db had over 18,000 spam & now has 14. That's a great deal of time lost. Now I will have to retrain for the product to work. What happened? Do you make a backup of the db prior to installing the update? Where can I find the backup? Kenneth Hart

i'm not able to use spambayes. i get a message tat it is not initialized. i tried adding it thru com add-ins in tools>options of outlook2000. i've ihatespam running on win98se.

These days almost no spammers use a legitimate reply address. At best the bounce attempt contributes an additional undeliverable message to the clutter. Support request

I am running windows XP pro and outlook xp, with spambayes 0.7. Spambayes is not automatically filtering spam. It only scores email when I manually run the filter. I have looked at the trouble-shooting guide, but am stil having trouble. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thank you Mahalo Nui Loa! Feature Request -(optional) Ham Folder

SpamBayes has a Spam and Unsure Folder. In our case, we forward email a Blackberry. But the Blackberry gets ALL the email including the Spam. Grrrrr. If SpamBayes had an (optional) Ham Folder, we could forward all the Ham email to the Blackberry that goes to the Ham folder. What do you think? John

Background filter timer not working

Hi, This is with 0.8 version of the addin. I have background filtering enabled, but filtering seems to be happening as soon as mail is received. I bumped the logging to "1", and found this in my log: New message timer started - id=19394, delay=10000 New message timer started - id=19375, delay=10000 Message '[deleted]' had a Spam classification of 'Yes' New message timer started - id=19374, delay=10000 Message '[deleted]' had a Spam classification of 'No' New message timer started - id=19370, delay=10000 Message '[deleted]' had a Spam classification of 'Yes' New message timer started - id=19366, delay=10000 Message '[deleted]' had a Spam classification of 'Yes' New message timer started - id=19365, delay=10000 Message '[deleted]' had a Spam classification of 'Yes' The timer with id=19365 fired The new message timer found no new items, so is stopping Those 5 messages all came in from one Send/Receive, over about a 15 second period of time, with no more than a second or two between them. I'm not certain about this, but I'm pretty sure the timer was working until I changed my Outlook configuration to create two Send/Receive groups, both of which are checked on Send/Receive, but only one of which checks the server on a regular basis. The above log is from hitting Send/Receive. I'd really like to get back to using timers, so any help very much appreciated. Thanks, J

Probelm with procmail and sb_filter

Hi, I have a problem with procmail and sb_filter after and upgrade (CVS of 2003.10.02) It was working with (CVS of 2003.08.28). The mail don't have the X-Spambayes-Classification header. This is my .procmailrc :0 c backup :0 c | setenv > $HOME/tata :0 fw:hamlock | path_to_sb_server/sb_server -f -d $HOME/hammie.db :0 * ^X-Spambayes-Classification: spam spam :0 * ^X-Spambayes-Classification: unsure unsure I know I'm able to run sb_server since on a command line cat a_mail_message | path_to_sb_server/sb_server -f -d $HOME/hammie.db print out the mail message with the good header I know I'm accessing/reading the procmalrc file since a copy of the mail it sent to backup and the file $HOME/tata is filled with the environment variable. If I change the lines: :0 fw:hamlock | path_to_sb_server/sb_server -f -d $HOME/hammie.db for :0 fw:hamlock | path_to_sb_server/sb_server -f -d $HOME/hammie.db > $HOME/titi The file titi is filled with the mail with the good header. So the problem is Under RH 8.0 using evolution 1.4 my mail is not filtered (I does not have the X-Spambayes-Classification header. (evolution is set to display all the header) To be sure I also check the file ~/evolution/local/Inbox/mbox and look for the latest mail and It does not have the header but the mail is there. Remi
