Using Outlook rules with Spambyas

Hello, I really like Spambyas, but have found a problem in the way my Outlook is setup. I have the following configuration: Windows XP Professional Outlook 2002 SP-1 Spambyas binary version 0.81 I am using the Outlook Rules Wizard to move mail from different email accounts into their own folders. This is the format: "Apply this rule after the message arrives through the MSN Roadrunner account Move it to the Inbox MSN folder" The problem is that after Spambyas detects it as spam, this rule moves it again to the Inbox MSN folder and Spambyas trains it as a good message. Is there a way around this? Thank you, Alan Vernick

If you ever have to retrain from the archive file, I'd suggest that you copy the relevant folder to your main .pst file first. My experience has been that it can be very difficult to persuade Spambayes to let go of a .pst file it thinks it needs. If it remembers that it once used your archive .pst file for training, it may try to open it every time you open Outlook. And if it doesn't find it, you may see other things in Outlook stop working correctly. The interaction between Outlook and the Spambayes plugin is apparently complex; It's a good idea not to tempt fate. extending bayesian filtering

Hi, I don't know whether this idea is new, and I do not need it myself. But my thought is that bayesian filtering may be used for other means than only spam-ham-checking. As I Understand It, spambayes has a database with spam and one with ham, compares each message new with the messages in each database and calculates spam/ham probabilities this way. Would it be possible to extend this to 3, 4, or 10 different message databases? Suppose someone gets a lot of e-mail (for example, because he is a famous politician or something like that). He may want to filter it into several mailboxes, for example, based on what the e-mail is about (foreign policy, education, taxes, etc). This is too complex for simple regexp-rule-filtering. Could bayesian filtering be a solution? If he would show 5 mails about each subject, could Bayesian filtering do a good job in filtering all following emails according to those databases? The SpamBayes FAQ says that some people keep their Spam folder filled with hundreds or thousands of messages so that, if the SpamBayes database becomes corrupt, they can use those messages to retrain SpamBayes and rebuild the database. What I do instead is set my Spam folder to Auto-archive every week into a file named archive_SPAM.pst. If the SB database gets corrupted, I would just import that PST file back into Outlook temporarily. After retraining SB, I could then just delete the imported messages. Any new spam is then appended to the archive_SPAM.pst file when the next auto-archive time arrives. Jeff Jansen | Portland, Oregon | USA

Unable to install on Outlook 2002

When I attempt to install release 0.81 on Outlook 2002 (on Windows XP) I receive the following error message. Unable to register DLL/OCX: Dll Register server failed; code 0x00000000. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks John Jones JJ708(a)bellsouth.net

That particular FAQ says this: "The problem with a server-side solution is that everyone has a different idea of what is spam - that's the whole strength of the bayesian-style filtering concept. If you are certain that all of your users would agree on what is spam and what is not, then this might work for you, but otherwise you really have to have individual databases for each user." You're not the first person to have troubles with this (and IIRC, the last person had the name of the file wrong, too). Assuming that this option doesn't get exposed via the GUI in the next release, can you suggest how the doc could be reworded to make it easier to understand? =Tony Meyer
