Outlook Security Dialogs

Hi all, I am hoping someone can answer a query that has been bugging me for the longest time about Outlook. Outlook 2000 and above have new security measures that pop up a dialog box when code tries to access email/addresses. I have written a VB COM addin (basically a replacement rules manager for Outlook that has none of the limits of the Microsoft version), but cannot get around the security dialog. I have recently used and tested Spambayes, and no such warning is displayed... could someone tell me how this is done?! It it something about the way Python interfaces with Outlook, or is there simply a way to authorise a COM add-in to have access (I did wonder about digitally signed code, but don't have a digital signature to test this). Any ideas/solutions thankfully received! Dave Barrett

Cannot install Outlook addin

When I run the addin installer I get a message at the end that it cannot register the DLL /OCX: Dll register server failed on the file spambayes_addin.dll. If I hit abort it rolls back the install, if I hit ignore it finishes but Spambayes is not installed. I am trying to install the latest version on Outlook for Windows XP. I did this for my machine at home with an identical version of Outlook and Windows and it installed just fine. Any ideas what is up? If possible, please copy replies to rgrossjr(a)mac.com. One address/ folder not working?

I have installed SpamBayes and it has been chugging away for a couple of weeks now. I have 5 accounts that I get email to in Outlook. My typical way of working with email was to create a folder for 4 of the accounts and move the email into those folders (one stays in the inbox). SpamBayes works GREAT, on all but one of those accounts/folders. It consistently has spam in it. I mean of the 30 emails I might get to it in one day, 25 are spam and they are all sitting in the folder. I tried removing the folder from SpamBayes "list" and then re-adding it back, with no better results. Help? Scott

Two sb_server processes?

When I launch sb_server on linux, I see one "sb_server.py" process. After a while, I notice that there are two processes. Should this be happening? _________ Stephen

bayes evasion

I'm starting to notice a trickle of spam coming in with advertisements at the beginning, and some other type of large message appended to the end. In one case, the large text at the end was a review of the movie, The Godfather. While the Plan For Spam FAQ mentions how random words are handled, it doesn't mention how these types of emails affect the system if learned from as Spam. If learned from, how would the classifier react when the same review comes into the inbox without the advertisement? Will properly training the spam and ham as such handle this issue? Will training from these types of messages "pollute" the database, and thereby make it less effective? Thank you for any comments, hank

Custom Menu disappears from Toolbar

Ever since I installed SpamBayes Outlook Plug in, my custom menu (a quicklist of email addresses) disappears after closing Outlook. In other words, I create the menu, it works fine, I close Outlook, and when I reopen it the menu is no longer there. It was working fine before I installed SpamBayes. I searched Microsoft's Knowledge Base, but didn't find anything there about any of the updates causing this issue. Could it be the SpamBayes? Operating System: Windows 2000 sp4 Outlook version: Outlook 2002 with all updates installed SpamBayes version: 8.1 Thanks! Julie Green

Outstanding product! It's running a perfect game so far. I have one complaint though - even though I set the flag to mark spam as read, it doesn't remove the Outlook 2000 email flag which appears in the system tray, even if that was the only incoming message. As a result, I have to look through all my folders to see what's new. As a result, I've turned that flag off, as a work around. -steven

Can't enable filtering.

Read the troubleshooting guide but couldn't find an answer. We are running the binary version and when I installed on computer and trained, I set the filter parameters, but the filtering box is grayed out. Do I need to delete the log and start all over again? I have the filter parameters set up and even had it filter which it did but I can't start automatic filtering. Any ideas? Susan J. missing a folder

Hi I am not sure how to explain htis problem. I had spambayes up and running and it was great. Some how the second folder was deleted and now every time I try to designate a email as spam it tells me you must configure the folder. I tried the default reconfiguration, the configuration wizard uninstalled and downloaded anew and it still does the same thing. I have the junk suspect folder but not the other one. The program says that it has trained and is ready to go but it is missing a folder. I am running winows 98 and microsoft outlook 2000. Help. it is great program when it is running but I can not get it there.
