I think you've gotten too cute for your clientele. Spambayes setup is already confusing enough without the arbitrary enforcement of the developers' undocumented notions of best practice. If you think training on the "sent" folder is a bad idea, say so in the installation instructions; but don't incorporate another unexpected restriction. How much training was this? 40 minutes sounds like a lot! Note that you can get really good results with only small amounts of training data. Maybe imapfilter isn't immediately releasing everything that it could (although I can't see anything apparent), or maybe the garbage collection just wasn't keeping up. Or maybe there's a *really* massive message that it choked on? (since it died reading from the socket). If you run it again, it shouldn't try and train any of those messages again - does it die immediately on the same message? (If so, then it's likely to be the latter). =Tony Meyer

Remember that this is alpha, open-source, software - if the setup is confusing, then what would help is users explaining what would make it clearer (or submitting a patch). It looks like you're using the Outlook plug-in; if that's not the case, then ask again, because this will be irrelevant. If you mean that the plug-in can automatically filter all incoming mail, that's correct. You probably don't have it configured to do so. Try going through the settings (the "Filtering" tab is the one you are after) and checking that you have in fact set it to filter. Check the box in the "General" tab to see if there are any status messages. If this doesn't work, then please go through the steps in the troubleshooting guide, and if you need to send another email, please include the required information for us to be able to help (version of Windows, Outlook, the plugin, log files). =Tony Meyer

Spambayes stopped working

W98 / Outlook 2000 Spambayes worked great for aboout a month. Recently my system crashed. Since reboot, Spambayes sits on my toolbar but doesn't seem to work. Nothing is filtered. Clicking on 'Spambayes' results in . . . Nothing. How do I get it back? Couldn't find the answer in FAQ.

Install problem: conflict between Python versions using Mandrake 9.1

Hello, I am in tp process making a transition from using Windows to using Linux, so I am quite inexperienced in the ways of Linux... I would like to install Spambayes, but I noticed that the requirements suggested Python 2.3 would be better thanPython 2.2. Since Mandrake 9.1 comes with Python 2.2.?, and I am a Python programmer, I thougth I would upgrade to Python 2.3. However, it seems that other software on mandrake requires 2.2 to be installed. So I downloaded built and installed Python 2.3.2. Since I want to program using Python 2.3, and I can't apparently remove Python 2.2 without also removing other Mandrake 9.1 installed software, this problem affects me in a wider sense than just the ability to install and use Spambayes. Surely it must be a common situation faced by Python developers on Linux, with a straightforward solution.

A bug in spambayes?

Hello, I use a PC, running on XP home version, and Office 2002 Developer version. Since July 2003 I use Steganos Password Manager, without problems. Steganos is a German company selling software. http://www.steganos.com <http://www.steganos.com/> Yesterday December 30, 2003, I downloaded an anti-spam tool, by the name of SpamBayes. The spambayes addin to Outlook 2002 works well, was easy to install and learns to recognise spam. But I found a problem. When Steganos Password Manager is running, Outlook 2002 won't start up completely, when the spambayes addin is installed. * PwMan.exe (from Steganos) takes all CPU power (up to 95% as seen in Windows task manager) * and eventually Outlook 2002 doesn't start at all. When Outlook 2002 (Part of Office 2002) isn't starting it will tell me to stop the addin from running, then I can receive all emails (inclusive spam) and I can keep Steganos Password Manager running. When Steganos Password manager isn't running, Outlook starts fully and I can receive emails controlled for spam. I add 4 logs as asked Please verify. Best wishes for a happy New Year. Norbert H. Should Spambayes filter automatically?

When I installed spambayes last week (I only had it running for a day, then had to replace HD) I thought that it ran automatically. When I reinstalled, I need to run it manually. What do I do? Thanks Bruce
