Hi, I'm using Outlook 2003 running on Windows 2000 Server. I installed Spambayes 005, but it only worked sporadically, and it frequently crashed Outlook. I then installed 006, but it still does not filter and often crashes Outlook. Any suggestions on what to do? I've deleted the config file, retrained (entire database) several times, uninstalled, reinstalled, tried a rain dance, ... Nothing seems to help. Is Spambayes not compatible with Outlook 2003? In looking for a "real project" to try out Python I've been considering a generic logger class. Can't add add-in!

I had been successfully running SpamBayes for about a month - went on hols and when I came back Outlook Crashed whilst attempting to filter. I ended task on Outlook as it wasn't responding, and then when I re-launched it I was asked if I wanted to disable the add in - I said yes. Most of my email had been filtered, but now the tool bars for the spam have disappeared, and the program isn't running. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing etc, I followed this from the trouble shooting guide: 1. Start Outlook, and select Tools->Options to display the main Options dialog. 2. Select the tab labelled Other, then click on the Advanced button. 3. Click on the COM Add-Ins button. 4. If the SpamBayes addin is not listed, then SpamBayes should be reinstalled (Note that running regsvr32.exe spambayes_addin.dll from the SpamBayes directory may also solve this problem) 5. If the SpamBayes addin is listed but not checked, then simply check it and close the dialog. But when I check the addin, click OK and then go back in, it has been unchecked again... Downloading

I'm sure you know about this, but when trying to install your Outlook plugin it comes up with a message saying that Outlook has to be closed. It does this regardless of whether Outlook has been launched or not. I'd really like to use it, so hope you can let me know when this problem, whatever it is, has been fixed. All the best, Hugh.

Spammer countermeasures against bayesian filters

I have noticed recent spam has a long list of presumably ham-like rare words appended to it. Do you believe that this is a Bayes filter countermeasure? If so is the countercountermeasure a tweak that looks at the number of times the word has appeared? I suggest the beta distribution as a generalization of spam and ham probabilities as a possibility. If this is the Outlook plugin, then choose "SpamBayes Manager" from the "SpamBayes" item on the "SpamBayes" toolbar. In the dialog box that pops up there is an "About" button at the bottom. Click on this and it will open a html page which has a link to the troubleshooting page. That page has all the information you need to troubleshoot. If this isn't the Outlook plugin, then you're in luck! There are no logs ;) What you see is what you get. =Tony Meyer

This is probably because Outlook 2003 is using different ids for the folders than Outlook 2000. Try deleting your configuration file (or renaming/moving it) and setting it up again. (I think Mark fixed a bug that stopped reconfiguring in this situation just recently. Also, when you said "latest version" did you mean 005 or 006? (the latest version is the one that gives you the option to check for the latest version in the menu...) =Tony Meyer

Outlook 2003 and Spambayes

I am having a problem with the filtering mechanism. I successfully configured the plugin running Outlook 2000. I recently installed Outlook 2003 to sync with a new Pocket PC. I am running Win2000. As a result, I installed the newest version of the Spambayes plugin. All of the messages appear to be scoring properly, but when I set the filtering rules and check the boxes that indicate where the spam and possible spam is to be sent, those values are not "held" and disappear to <unknown folder> when the "filter rules" dialog box is closed.
