Aha!! That was it! After Tim's encouragement, I tried Spambayes again with the data execution prohibition disabled, and it worked. Maybe some of the other reported crashes have a similar origin. But my own experience suggests that other Windows apps have similar problems with the option, which I suspect will lead most people not to use it. Maybe other manufacturers won't adopt it anyway. Alas, I dug myself another hole while working on Spambayes last night. I'll seek help for that one in a separate message. Can someone with a knowledge of the plugin code tell me whether it violates the modern fad of scrupulously avoiding the execution of data? Old-time coders like me used to do it all the time. (You can get away with it even in recursive and reentrant programs if you're careful.) But it's considered a security risk today, and the GX620 has a factory-preset BIOS option to prevent it. During the weekend, after I sent my original note, I found a program that wouldn't run on my computer until I disabled that option. I'm wondering now whether I ought to make another run at Spambayes with the option turned off. Any advice for me? That's a bit like letting the gas out of a helium balloon and then asking the Weather Channel to help you get it back. But one thing puzzles me: If Ms Buchesky was already embarrassed that the original message put her name into the public domain, why did her subsequent plea (to the same public list) include a v-card containing not only her name, but her address and phone number as well?! Keep in mind that she runs the help desk in an IT department! This simply is not possible, by design. When you post to a public mailing list, it's, well, public, and your messages may be (and generally are) copied to multiple archives. Those archives are not under the control of the SpamBayes developers, and it is not possible to locate every copy of your messages. That's why, if you go to the SpamBayes contact page (http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/contact.html), you'll see the following warning: "There are currently five mailing lists of interest. All lists are public, and all are publicly archived. This is normal practice for open-source projects, and you should be aware that all email sent to one of these addresses will be visible to the world." So, the cat is unfortunately out of the bag. In the future, do not post to public lists if you wish to hide your name. Note that if you send private messages to developers, they may post a reply to a public list if they think the information in the exchange might help someone else. You can ask them not to do that, but they may reasonably decline to reply at all in that case. Outlook Express "Train on a message, mbox file or dbx file" Does not Work

I've read the FAQ, looked through the web site, and Googled for help with no results. A good e-mail gets flagged as "unsure(a)spambayes.invalid" and goes to the Possible Junk folder. I move it to a folder named "Good Mail". From the home page, I browse to the location of the "Good Mail" dbx file and select it. I click "Train As Ham". The web page indicates "Training... Saving...Done". When I return to the home page, the "Total emails trained" count has not changed. Should the total emals trained increase by 1, or is there something wrong? Hi again Tony: Since my first email 10 minutes ago, I tried two more things. One game me an interesting result. 1) If I don't have any mail message highlighted and I click on "Delete As Spam", I get the normal error message ("No filterable mail selected" or something like that) before Outlook shuts down. 2) I changed the DEP settings again ("Turn on DEP for all programs and services except..." and listed Outlook.exe as my only exception). After making the change and rebooting, I uninstalled SpamBayes and then reinstalled it. Same shutdown result. Interesting result when I uninstalled SpamBayes: the toolbar was still there on the list of possible toolbars and when I clicked on it, I still got the shutdown (this is with SpamBayes UNinstalled! I reinstalled SpamBayes and then disabled the COM Add-in for SpamBayes. The toolbar disappeared. Then I uninstalled again and reinstalled. The toolbar appears when it should now, but the shutdown is continuing. Just thought I'd add some more curiosities to see if we can get this thing fixed! Thank you. Outlook 2003 Toolbar problem

Hello! Thanks for having such a great product! I just recently upgraded to Outlook 2003 and Spambayes is doing fine at moving junk and suspect junk to the right place. The toolbar, however, cannot be used. Anytime I click on anything on the toolbar including the option to configure Spambayes, Outlook shuts down. I've read a couple of threads of folks having the same problem, but I haven't found the thread with the solution. There is one, isn't there? Thanks! Danny Burk

Installation error + Script error

Hi there, I'm trying to use part of the SpamBayes system, and combining it with fuzzy logic to see what sort of effects I could get. 1. I'm really new in all this. =\ 2. Also, I tried running a script that was provided in the package, called sb_mailsort.py.
