Problems with Spambayes after installing as outlook plug-in
by Carpaij, J.G.W. Jan. 7, 2006

Jan. 7, 2006

Hi, After working for a couple of months with Spambayes the program crashed. It didn't move any mailmessage at all. I uninstalled the program, but after installing it again, the software doesn't work. Outlook doesn't have the spambayes bar at the top. How can I fix this problem? Kind regards, Joost Carpaij

Re: [Spambayes] icon in systray not "active"
by Bill Linhardt Jan. 7, 2006

FYI I did not edit the file manually. I was not aware of the existence of the config file until I received this message. Thank you for calling it to my attention. As a matter of fact, I was attempting to redo the configure when I discovered the problem with the disappearing icon in the systray. I would be happy to do whatever is likely to get me back to the point where I can at least try to do something to recover. I am attaching the file called bayescustomize.ini. Now that I know about this file, I can edit it, if that is the correct thing. Or, remove the entire file, if that is likely to allow tray icon to do it's normal function. Thanks Bill L. request for Help
by Melvin Wong Jan. 7, 2006

I love SpamBayes very very much. However, after re-installing a system image from my previous machine, SpamBayes stops working in my new machine's Outlook. I have tried many things to restore the greatest SpamBayes, but still without success. 1) I tried to re-install the entire Office 2K3 Pro suite, and try to re-install both the SpamBayes 1.0.4 and 1.1a1 binaries. No success 2) I tried to install the source code version by downloading all 3 required pieces (Python 2,4, pywin32-205.win32-py2.4.exe, and SpamBayes source code 1.1a1). - Copying the source code directory under c:\python24\Lib\site-packages - Running "c:\python24\python setup.py install" inside the source-code directory in MS-DOS prompt. - Spambayes directory is then created under c:\python24\Lib\site-packages directory. - Ran "addin.py" under "C:\Python24\Lib\site-packages\spambayes-1.1a1\Outlook2000" in MS-DOS prompt. When I restarted Outlook 2k3, under the COM Add-In manager, I got an error like the screenshot attached with this email message. In addition, I tried opening the debugger that comes with pythonwin, but there is no logs appended when I started Outlook after I ran addin.py . Therefore, I could not provide any logs for you all to further troubleshoot - Sorry about that. Or, feel free to let me know if I should do it in a different way. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks, Melvin

Outlook 2003 Crash
by Heather Jan. 7, 2006

Jan. 7, 2006

Hi, I've been a happy user of SpamBayes for a couple of years now, but started to have a major error last night. My current configuration: * XP Pro * Acer TravelMate 8100 (notebook) * Outlook 2003 * SpamBayes 1.0.4 System changes since SpamBayes was last operational: * Installed Adobe Creative Suite Premium (Photoshop; Illustrator; GoLive; Acrobat Pro; ImageReady; InDesign; VersionCue) * Installed MSN Messenger * Installed Google Talk * (all last night) Issue: * Before the installs, I closed Outlook * When I restarted after the last install and tried to opened Outlook, I got an error message that left me with the option of restarting Outlook with or without disabling SpamBayes * The only way I could open Outlook successfully was to disable SpamBayes Solutions Tried: * Rebooting * Uninstalling SpamBayes and reinstalling it (re-enabling it in Outlook) * Installing the newer version of SpamBayes No solutions I've tried have worked. I still get the same issue described above. I'd love your help, because I already REALLY miss SpamBayes. -Heather Slidework LLC :: Presenting You. http://www.slidework.com :: (206) 686-7780 Direct: (206) 686-7780 x555

Configuring spambayes
by Bill Sandeman Jan. 7, 2006

Jan. 7, 2006

Hi, I have had Spambayes POP3 proxy version 1.0.4 (March 2005) for about a month now, and have trained quite a few messages on it, but despite reading your troubleshooting guide am still too thick to get it to work! Most of my trouble is that I do not understand the language you are using: for example, I have never been able to work out what a "server" is. Could you please explain in words of one syllable how to alter my incoming mail settings? I have replaced pop.3.tiscali.co.uk with spambayes@localhost in my accounts for incoming mail, and also in the "servers" tab, despite it not accepting the latter as a valid server name. I also enclose a copy of my configuration attempts as a word document. Thank you, Bill Sandeman

Hi, Perhaps this is an old question ... During training the "modified date" is set to the "training date" and the archiving is postponed. How can I prevent this? TIA Willy --- avast! Modified Classifier storage
by manuel+spambayes＠af0.net Jan. 5, 2006

Jan. 5, 2006

Hi, I'm looking to store a bunch of storage.Classifiers in a database indexed by user (in other words, so that each user gets his own classifier). It seems I could do this easily enough by modifying mySQLClassifier or similar (though I'd like to use SQLObject so I'm not tied to a specific database server), but before I go and mess with that, I was wondering if there's an easier way. For example, I could probably create a classifier.Classifier instead, and just pickle it to and from a database record (one per user), but without looking closer at the code I'm unclear if that's completely batty or not. I figured I'll go ahead and modify the SQL Classifiers to just add to the record a "user" field, and select the records specific to that user (seems to be the least-likely-to-suck-for-performance option), but if anyone has any comments on this, I'd appreciate the input. By the way, before people tell me stuff like "just run SpamBayes separately for each user," I'm using SpamBayes's Bayesian classification system for something entirely different, just because it seemed among those that suited my needs best. So that suggestion isn't an option here. :) Thanks, Manuel

Re: [Spambayes] Viruses in attachments
by Jesse Pelton Jan. 4, 2006

I doubt this is SpamBayes' doing. Does the behavior continue if you disable SpamBayes? ________________________________ From: spambayes-bounces(a)python.org [mailto:spambayes-bounces@python.org] On Behalf Of George Osborne Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 1:21 PM To: spambayes(a)python.org Subject: [Spambayes] Viruses in attachments I seem to be having a problem with SpamBayes that I haven't found noted elsewhere. While scanning through email, it opens items with attachments, activating the virus and prompting my antivirus to alert me to the virus -- but not before an email has gone outbound. So I'm sending out these viral emails & getting messages back from servers complaining about it. I can't find anything in SpamBayes' config pages, or Help. Is there a way to stop it from opening emails with attachments? ________________________________ Yahoo!
